It was the easiest way for Saddam to continue his interest in WMD while under UN sanctions and embargo, but you'd imagine Assad would have gotten the message when Israel attacked their other nuclear reactor in 2007. Perhaps Assad doesn't even know..... and is Iran involved! The proliferation of nuclear technology in an oil rich area like the MidEast has no real purpose other then weapons. Nuclear proliferation is evil and just because the Cold War meant the US and USSR created lots, doesnt mean the non-Arab world isnt comitted to reducing nuclear weapons.

UN investigators have identified a previously unknown complex in Syria that bolsters suspicions the regime worked with AQ Khan, the father of Pakistan's atomic bomb, to acquire technology that could be used to make nuclear arms. Officials told The Associated Press the buildings closely match the design of a uranium enrichment plant provided to Libya when Muammar Gaddafi was trying to build nuclear weapons under Mr Khan's guidance. UN investigators also have obtained correspondence between Khan and a Syrian official. The Syrian proposed cooperation and a visit to Mr Khan's laboratories.

There have been some signs of Israeli nuclear activity lately- such as hundreds of bombs, ballistic delivery systems and German-made submarines. How does this ' Syrian discovery ' stack up ?

Israel's acquisition of nuclear capabilities was also part of the Cold War many decades ago. Ballistic delivery systems might seem like a big word, but a mortar is a ballistic delivery system. It does not imply or otherwise have to mean nuclear.

Your seem to be suffering a common Arab infliction of "its ok to be a victim and it justifies hatred". I'm sure you know what proliferation means and why most of the world supports it. If you don't know that explains your post I guess.

The problem for the Israelis is that their submarines are only armed with cruise missiles carrying nuclear warheads. They need ballistic missiles with nukes in order to improve their reach.

LOL, yea its not a laughing matter but given the threats and persistant support for repeated attacks on Israel by all its neighbours, its pretty obvious Israel has a policy of assured destruction as a defence. The difference being they could get away with turning most of the Arab world into glass at any moment doesnt seem to worry the Arabs because they know Israel is too much of a nice guy. Meantime in the foothils of Syria they try to secretly get nuclear material, in secret, for reasons they'd rather keep secret.

Nuclear war in the Middle East is inevitable. The Israelis have a choice. They can strike first or die.

They certainly dont get any credit for given the Arabs a chance to get themselves in order but it definatly looks like the Arabs are not interested in doing that so your probably right... its the only logical conclusion, an Arab Winter :( All they've got to do is stamp out Arab terrorism which exists in their countries and Israel can stop freaking out about a seemingly inevitable WMD strike on Israel.

Simultaneous strikes on all Iranian cities...one low yield bomb at the base of Egypt's Aswan high dam...give the Jordanians the choice of life or death...simultaneous strikes on Damascus, Aleppo, Latakia...give the Saudis the choice of life or death...the world will do nothing.

Now your having a laugh. Israeli government would be dismantled and the IDF disarmed by the international community and replaced by multinational peacekeepers....if the IDF did that sort of first strike. Most Israeli's would leave Israel and it would be the end of Israel.

I'd wager the Israeli nuclear capability is to react to WMD attack on Israel only.

It's better to be feared than to be loved. Sometimes scary talk is useful.

Why would Israel turn MOST of the Arab world into glass?

They don't have any nukes and have NOT threatened Israel.

Certain other Nations with bases in the region, a history of anti-Zionism, and large nuclear stockpiles, would not look to kindly on such a development:

    ......Not threatened Israel LATELY.

Unless of course you count the surrounding Arabs states that eagerly advocate and openly support the "resistance" in their pursuit of the destruction of the "zionist regime".

I didnt say they would, I just said they could.

The Arab world agrees with, supports, finances and supplies weapons to terrorists currently engaged in warfare to destroy Israel. Just because people like you choose to pretend its resistance to Israeli reprisals it doesn't change that fact about the hatred and actions for the destruction by Israel by the Arab, well more correctly the islamic world.

Though of course the thread is about Syria's new secret efforts to generate nuclear material. Should I wonder 'if' or 'when', in regards to the islamic world conducting a WMD attack on Israel???
