New York is going to begin trials of plasma replacement as a potential treatment for those severely afflicted with corona virus. The treatment involves taking blood from those who have recovered from the virus, separating the clear plasma from the red blood. the plasma is then injected into the blood stream of those severely afflicted with the virus, in the hope and expectation it will carry some immunity properties to the patient. This is my non medical layman explanation interpreting what I read.

What they are hoping is that the antibodies contained within the fresh plasma may help

This is an excellent article outlining risk/benefit

Sounds great but as of today USA is reporting 295 people who are recovered and over 42,000 active cases. This will not be a game changer.

Read the article I linked to
Passive antibody therapy is more effective at preventing the disease

What might well happen yet is that health care workers on the frontline may be given immunoglobulin to reduce the possible spread to those people

The man and his wife ate fish tank cleaner.

The possibility of a happy ending to this plague makes you nervous, huh.

Stop lying. The couple ingested fish aquarium cleaner because it contains chloroquine phosphate. Your post is very telling of your intentions.

Not at all. But the more people that die from the Wuflu the better it is for Democrats. That is why they are hoping this drug is a dud.

I will put money on the fact it was either a black market pill In which case it could have been anything from the dogs anti flea treatment to packaged cyanide or

He had undiagnosed prolonged QT syndrome

A third alternative, not as likely, but a possibility since they both got sick - they both have a deficiency in magnesium

Edited to add - seems my first guess was correct

However we may have to weigh cost/benefit as no treatment is risk free and you would be administering this to healthy people

And now you know why we have been urging caution

The way Trump has been touting this as a “cure” is criminal

The point remains the same. As of yesterday there were a total of 295 potential donors in the entire USA. Unless it is possible to prepare multiple doses from a single donor, it will take a long time before this therapy becomes any more than a drop in the ocean.

You're telling me that you all were "urging caution" because you foresaw a situation whereby someone thought they could cure themselves of an ailment by drinking a chemical cleaning product because someone else said that one of the ingredients in said cleaning product was showing positive results in clinical testing? You, uhm, you knew that was coming? And because your caution went unheeded its now a criminal matter?

    Uh huh.

I didn’t but the WHO did as did the CDC. Why the HELL do you think that neither of those institutions tout or release the names of “cures” until the research done?
There are well established methods of releasing information to the public. Trump just grabbed the first bit of positive information to come his way in an effort to look like he IS doing something

Kinda like the folks in India drinking cow urine:
Dozens of Hindu activists in India hosted a cow urine-drinking party. Some members of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Hindu nationalist party have claimed that cow urine and dung can prevent and cure COVID-19.
    https://www.dw.com/en/hindu-group-hosts-cow-urine-drinking-party-to-ward-off-coronavirus/a-52773262

Not as bad as Iranians drinking denatured alcohol to prevent the virus:
The death toll from consumption of toxic alcohol in Iran rose by 65 on Thursday, bringing the total to 180 in nearly two weeks, local media reported.
The development comes amid rising coronavirus cases and deaths in the Gulf country.

    Stupidity isn't illegal.

Yeah, and WHY did they ingest the stuff? Because RW media, forums, and the president peddle chloroquine as a "cure". Words have consequences, you know? Well, for Trump it seems they never have consequences, but his time as Teflon Don may be running out.

A responsible president would have cautioned people that chloroquine, while potentially beneficial, is not a substitute for social distancing, and that people shouldn't ingest anything saying chloroquine on it without consulting a doctor.

Well bleach kills bacteria, so do you think it's normal for people with bacterial infections to ingest bleach and then blame it on scientist? Come on, this is ridiculous. It's not even the same form of chloroquine, so if anyone had thought ingesting aquarium cleaner was a good idea, then you do deserve a darwin award. The fact that dems here are blaming this on Trump is very telling of your agenda.

Physicians are not going to take mortar and pestle, crush up and then hydrate these chloroquine and Zpak tablets, and put the cocktail in a patient's IV without the patient's knowledge. There will be informed consent from the patient, or it's not happening.

If a person is buying their own, un-prescribed form of chloroquine down at the pet shop and self-medicating under the Stupid Act of 9000 B.C., I'm sorry, but that person deserves what they get, even death -- because stupid almost always has to pay. People got to be nuts to play pandemic doctor once they're out of grade school.
