    If I had followed that logic when young, I’d be dead. With death, there is no perspective.

    High caliber rifles like legitimately all rifles used for primary production protection? It is inhumane to kill a wild pig with 22LR. Australia is a very rural country, firearms are necessary.

    In Australia we have handguns for sport shooting (subject to a lot of hoops and 6 months membership and regular shoots at a gun club), no semi-automatic rifles, and rifles of bolt or lever action up to .500 but not including.

    This works well.

    I own a Glock 17a on sporting license. I have never killed anyone. We have not had a mass shooting with one over my lifetime.

    Also, .223 is more or less the smallest caliber on offer in rifles except for niche rounds like .17. I advise you to learn what youre talking about.

    Imagine you're at a road junction; you look left, then right but you forget to look up and a plane lands on you. Damn, wish I had my gun.

    I'm surprised Australians don't have a lot more guns. Everything in Australia is trying to kill you ;)

    It must be noted that in the nation of New Zealand, the legal magazine capacity is ten rounds. And yet despite that, nearly fifty individuals were still murdered with ease.

    Therefore magazine capacity restrictions do not reduce the scope of carnage.

    A lot do. It is not overly difficult to get bolt action rifles or double barrel shotguns. It's semi-automatic rifles up that are illegal, while handguns are heavily regulated on sporting licenses and cannot be used for other activities.

    13.7% own firearms. 89.6% live in urban areas. It is a highly urbanised country. Those who live in the country are far more enthusiastic about firearms.

    That's a good thing. It is a noble pursuit.

    A lot of stuff is trying to kill you, but we have no land based apex predators. Snakes kill 2 people a year, sharks 5. We dont have bears or lions, where personal protection with a firearm would be more approrpriate.

    A significant number of two-legged predators located within the nation of Australia, however, are indeed trying to kill others, and are succeeding at doing just that.

    Sorry but no.

    As of 2014 Australian vs US Crime Statistics;

    - Murders Australia 229 (World Ranking 42nd)
    - Murders United States (12,996) (World Ranking 9th) i.e. 57 times more murders than Australia)

    From 'Nation Master Website'.
