Trinity Spirit Oil Tanker That Can Carry 2 Million Barrels Explodes at Sea (msn.com)

Dramatic footage shared on social media shows the Trinity Spirit oil tanker on fire and apparently sinking, with thick plumes of black smoke billowing into the sky.

Reports of the explosion first emerged in the early hours of Wednesday.

The vessel is a floating production storage vessel (FPSO), owned by Nigeria's Shebah Exploration & Production Company Ltd (SEPCOL).

The vessel is capable of storing about 2 million barrels of oil and can process up to 22,000 barrels a day, according to the company's website.

So much for the "we can just import Oil to the US" strategy...

don't worry, the right tells us American oil companies will keep prices low, overseas issues will not raise our prices

I'm sure it made a huge mess. 2 million barrels of oil sounds like a lot, but it really isn't all that much considering we burn up roughly 20 million barrels of oil per day here in the United States.

World oil consumption is currently about 100 million barrels per day.

I imagine the tanker burning would be preferable to it immediately sinking. Is burnt oil less of a threat than it being directly in the water?

As I understand it we haven't shut down anything. We've not expanded our own oil production because present oil prices overseas are not high enough to warrant the cost of exploiting new resources here.

But isn't this just what I said? The pipeline wasn't in use yet, so we weren't getting any new oil from it, were we?

Trump reduced foreign production, gas prices went up, see how that works

We wouldn't need foreign production if we kept our domestic production going. See how that works

we don't "need" it now, in fact we are exporting oil, but that is not what is effecting the gas prices, it's the reduced supply of foreign oil that is causing prices to go up
