harder to practice some religions, then to buy a gun... try to practice the peyote religion in the privacy of your own home

then try to buy a gun

see which right is easier to accomplish

If the peyote culture was as big as the gun culture, they would both be as easy to get. The market is a slave to demand.

Prolly could get it legalized if it was as popular as guns. Like weed is becoming.

I'll bet that the majority of Californians who are rushing to buy guns are liberals.

It hasn't been established...yet. Are you saying it is not possible for the Cops to ever be less capable in 'protecting' the masses than they are now?
Quite the campaign the gun lobby put on to make this rush happen so fast. Who ever thought they could be this effective?

Probably, but if guns had been illegal, would they be popular today as they are?

trust me, if peyote was legal, it would be more popular then guns

I think you're misunderstanding. In order to buy a rifle from the CMP ("civilian marksmanship program"), you have to demonstrate a proficiency in firearms. It is simply a condition they attach to selling you the rifle.

    Uhm - no?

I'm sure this is some kind of joke but I'm not getting the reference.

In NYC some years back, a guy tried to sue the NYPD because some cops just watched him get beat (or it might've been stabbed) near to death in the subway, and he only survived by fighting back himself. The court ruled that LE does not have an obligation to intervene in such situations. They can, but they don't have to. They just have to take the report and arrest the perp.

Oh okay I understand. I've never heard of the civilian marksmanship program. I'll have to look that up.

I thought you had the misfortune of losing your guns in a boating accident like I did when I lost ALL my guns in a boating accident. *wink*-*wink*
    Ammo. as well.
    That's my story...

Probably. Laws didn't make weed less popular. No reason guns would be different.

I'm not saying it does. I was just clarifying for Polydectes.

My point was, in order to get a rifle from the CMP, I had to get a concealed carry license from VA. At first I thought it would take a lot of work to get a concealed carry so I had almost given up. But then I googled VA concealed carry and found out I could get licensed in less than an hour. (That's not technically accurate because I still had to go to the courthouse after passing the 45-minute course, but that's still a pretty low bar.)

I mean buying them legally, there will always be illegal ways to buy things if one wants to risk prision over it

religion is a right, gun ownership is a right, the government should not be able to stop either - people should be able to buy guns and practice the peyote religion

I shot a .22 Ruger on the river the other day, I did not need to but it was plenty of fun.

I wanted a .308 M1 Garand. It was much cheaper to buy them from the CMP than privately, and the CMP guaranteed quality.

Are you asking if legally owning guns would be less popular if it was illegal to own guns?

it would be if owning guns was illegal for as long as Peyote

what I am saying is it's easier to own a gun then to practice the peyote religion

both are constitutional rights all American have and should not be denied

You have a Constitutional right to consume a schedule one, hallucinogenic drug? Wish I knew that in my early 20's when I did pscilocybin many times. All my paranoia, for nothing.

I suppose at one point in time peyote may have been as popular per capita as guns are now. But the people who enjoyed peyote were mostly wiped out ...after turning in their guns.

If they hadn't been, I imagine peyote would still be as popular with them as it ever was.
