Much as I am in disagreement with NOM (The National Organization For Marriage), I will give them credit for being one of the few socially conservative organizations to allow opposing views to be aired on their website as reader comments.

I've noticed however that, since the recent DOMA and Proposition 8 rulings, comments have completely disappeared from their daily blogs. Not even sycophantic musings from their own following. The "comments" function appears to still be present but it appears that nobody wants to use it anymore?

I did notice that their supporters' comments were getting uglier and nastier the closer we got to the rulings. Also their predictions of "victory" were getting more assured and hubristic with every passing defeat they suffered from the presidential election, to DADT through to these more recent cases.

Moreover, some of their more recent OPs don't even seem to make sense, even within the strictured narrative of their own worldview. For example, what on earth does this mean?

I think they've come to the realisation that their opponents comments just make more sense to most people and their most vehement supporters represent a double whammy; putting off more people than they persuade with their hateful rhetoric.

I think you reach a point when you're afraid of open debate that you have to admit the game is lost but I guess there's still money to be made by staying in business?

It means that they think metaphors, imagery, and creating memes are a substitute for well-reasoned arguments?

The 0 comments thing is weird. Once you get back to August 9th, you run into post where comments are turned off. Not sure if that's just something they do once an article reaches a certain age, or if comments were actually turned off for a while and people don't know they're back on again? They are getting some likes on Facebook (mostly less than 200 from the little bit I perused), and a few tweets on Twitter, but nothing dramatic.

I wouldn't take it as a sign that they're dead or dying, though. So long as they can keep those secret donations flowing, they'll be around. The courts have ruled against them several times on that, but it doesn't seem to have had any effect.

Well they have been having a bad few years. DADT, DOMA, Prop 8, the numerous bannings of conversion "therapy."

All in all its pretty clear who is winning the culture war here and they have no one to blame but themselves.

They should just accept an argument... I have a perfect one here:

    1. Men and Women have equal rights.
    2. If you are a man, you have the right to marry a woman. And if you are a woman, you have the right to marry a man.
    3. If you are a woman, you have the right to do what men do. And if you are a man, you have the right to do what women do. (This by 1) (provided that the action is possible).
    4. Therefore, Men have the right to marry men, and women have a right to marry women. (This by 2 and 3).
