Not sure why this wasn't here earlier. I honestly thought another would post this but hey, crazy black man and cop time right?! Unfortunately it falls to the wording of the PATRIOT ACT, not our rights. Keep the bull(*)(*)(*)(*) running I guess. Our rights are only worth what the majority wants.

A federal appeals court ruled a National Security Agency program that collects phone records on millions of Americans is illegal, intensifying a fight in Congress over extending the soon-to-expire surveillance effort.

A three-judge panel of the Second U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York eviscerated many of the legal theories under which the U.S. government has expanded surveillance since the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks. The judges didn’t address whether the NSA program violates constitutional privacy rights, as some groups allege, but found the Patriot Act language used by the Bush and Obama administrations to justify the program wasn’t meant to allow such mass data gathering.

Another small step toward ending the mass spying effort targeting American citizens.

Let's see where it goes from here.

I really hope for the best. We got over the whole communist hunt so I hope we can get over this. Unfortunately like with the commie hunt, we won't learn, and another boogyman will tear down our rights for no reason.

A link you can read without paying...

"Asked about the court’s ruling at a Senate subcommittee hearing today, Attorney General Loretta Lynch said Section 215 has been a “vital tool in our national security arsenal,” but the department has been operating under new directive from the president with view to modify program to keep efficacy -- but still protect privacy. She added that the Justice Department was reviewing the court’s decision and had not decided whether it will appeal. "

    Remember her?

Keep this in mind R's if you think a Cruz or a Rubio is going to end the massive spying on us... Rand Paul would.

There are a few on the left on this very forum that said they might vote for him. Its ironic but he is called "extreme" but i think its only the extreme on either side that wouldnt atleast think about voting for him. Your diehard neo-cons and Progressives wont but i think he can reach a middle ground with many without compromising his own beliefs.

I opposed the USA Patriot Act from day one.

I knew better than to trust the Bush adminstration with such power, and they lived down to my low expectations.

The Obama Adminstration has been no better.

This is what happens when you let leaders scare you into giving up your freedom for the illusion of security.

Considering Paul is the only one that would get rid of the Patriot act i take it he has your vote? Or will you continue your usual partisanship?

Our scumbag cohort of Republicans in Congress will find a way to undo this. Watch your liberty disappear shortly.

Time to water the tree with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Care to link the last extension vote? You will notice the VAST majority of both parties voted for it.

If Paul was an actual libertarian like his dad I would vote for him. But he's not. He's a social conservative.

The Patriot Act was a very bad act created in haste and driven by fear mongers. We would do well to end it all.

You didnt even read your wonderful neo-con blog did you?

It wasn’t until after the vote that Paul shared his reasoning. “Senator Paul opposes allowing Congress to exempt themselves from any legislation,” an aide told the Conservative Review. “To that end, yesterday, he reintroduced his proposed constitutional amendment to prohibit Congress from passing any law that exempts themselves. Senator Paul prefers this option over a partisan cross-examination of Congressional staff.”

    The Horror!!!!

So what "Fraud"? You are against the Patriot act but you are going to Neo-con (*)(*)(*)(*) hole blogs to find dirt on one of the few in Congress opposed to the Patriot act????

I find it curious that the court can find the practice illegal, yet fall short of ordering it stopped, or at the very least put an expiration on the practice, until or unless congress takes action.

You can't do this.... but you can still do it.

I like the guardian news as they supported snowden, etc...
    http://www.theguardian.com/commenti...o-nsa-mass-surveillance-now-congress-must-act

It is very nice news, although the court can’t stop colonial politics and its co-product: mass surveillance.
Mass spying is in function of colonial politics and fighting rebels at home who can organize themselves against wars for oil, against corporations, so, Congress will continue to work for interest of oil magnates/riches, and mass spying will still be present. America will make wars next 20-30 years, against Iran, Russia, Venezuela, etc, so, surveillance will not be abolished. It will be just bigger and bigger during the time, to secure totalitarian capitalism, dictatorship of billionaires. More and more people will be called terrorists, the same like in the time of war against Vietnam, human rights organizations, anti war groups, all of them were called terrorists and on the basis of that they were spied by FBI. so, nothing new in American foreign and domestic politics, just this is now about new tech (internet). if you want to learn about spying, read cointelpro documents:
