Posters here get all riled up about Sharia law, taking down the confederate flag, or building a border wall. But this move by trump is nuts. Gee let us give nuclear technology to the next country that is going to have a Islamic revolution. One day we recognize the occupation of the golan and move the capital to Jerusalem and the next we sell nuclear tech to the Saudi.
Please provide a link. I can support nuclear power tech, not military nuclear. Under the NPT all peaceful nations have a right to nuclear power generation if they want it.
If they want to acquire it from the U.S. it still requires approval from Congress. If the President is circumventing that, any transfer is illegal.
Well ... the American - Saudi relationship is full of hypocrisy and ignorance on the part of the United States, but also of gratitude, because Saudi Arabia at the request of the United States at that time for the most part caused the end of the USSR in the Cold War ... in which the Saudis have lowered the oil price = main foreign exchange revenue of the USSR so deep abd very long into the cellar that USSR got into the known economic mega problems, which mainly brought their end! The hypocrisy of the United States, however, continues to this day and despite Trump. Even the murder of the journalist did not change much in the end ... except that more Americans than before look more closely at Saudi Arabia ... but rarely draw conclusions from it. How else can you call it hypocritical when in a week in Iran someone is punished with the beastly punishments of the Sharia and the US again spit fire and brimstone against the evil Iranians (and the Islam haters anyway) ... the week after then but In Saudi Arabia, the heinous Sharia is also being used in the punishment, and nobody in the US (and most Islam haters) is interested. And the fact that 8 out of 10 Al Qaeda terrorists, citizens of Saudi Arabia, are still not interested in anyone in the US ... but woe if those 8 out of 10 citizens were from Iran, eh? And Trump? Then he cuddles with the Saudis one day because they make expensive deals with the US ... then he is forced to be angry at the murder of the journalist and rumble against Saudi Arabia ... but in the end Trump is interested in all this Whole with the dead journalist and the Sharia a ****! Why? Because the billion deals (mostly weapons) change absolutely nothing, because that's money for the US ... Does that also apply to Iran? And why does Israel still not have to sign the NPT with its reactor?
Nobody has to sign it. For now at least nation states are still nominally sovereign. Neither does the NPT give a nation the right to establish nuclear power, it just doesn't prohibit it, and provides for sharing of technology.
How the hell can you consider Saudi Arabia peaceful? Ask the Yemmi for their opinion of that? And a nation that gets 3000 hours of sunlight a year even have the gumption to say they need it for power creation for a nation with less population than new york. That whole area of the world is not peaceful to its neighbors and they already have an active group trying to overthrow them. Ten years from now they could be the same as Iran, Syria, Iraq, Libya. This is another great example of US actions that benefit multi national corporations and banks that don't reflect the interests of the US citizenry.
The plot thickens. Nuclear regulators were unaware of transfer of sensitive technical information to Saudi Arabia https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/worl...on-to-saudi-arabia/ar-BBVy5IX?ocid=spartanntp Do I smell another scandal?
Congress doesn't work any longer. We now have a system in which the president does what he wants and the courts review it. Someone will sue him and the courts will stop such a sale. Nothing to worry about. It is the new American way with only two branches of government.
Maybe. https://www.cnn.com/2019/04/06/middleeast/saudi-arabia-nuclear-reactor-iran-tensions-intl/index.html The House Oversight and Reform Committee on Tuesday released a report — accompanied by a tranche of internal White House emails — detailing a scheme spearheaded by now-disgraced former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn to sell technology for roughly 40 nuclear power plants to Saudi Arabia. https://www.vox.com/world/2019/2/19/18231812/saudi-arabia-nuclear-flynn-trump-democrats
