There have been a number of threads regarding the nurse that killed herself after receiving a prank call to try and contact Duchess Kate.

In one thread, I saw this response...

...which leads me to the question... "While NHS's usually result in more affordable care for consumers, what do they provide for caretakers themselves?"

The more I read about the nurse's situation, the more it sounds like the UK system isn't so good for doctors and nurses.

Why was the nurse put in such a financially burdensome position to begin with? Shouldn't a government-funded system pay its help properly?

The nurse worked in a private hospital, not the NHS. With her qualification and experience, her NHS pay would have been a minimum of $44300 pa plus up to one third premium for night shift work. Private sector pay tends to be a little less, but they can sometimes offer more flexibility on shift rotas.
Due to crazy house prices, London jobs tend to attract a cost of living premium too, which many people make go further by working in the zone while living outside the city, and commuting. Many public service staff such as police, fire, ambulance and nurses tend to do this.

With all the whining the Right is doing about pay for government worker, NOW they criticize National Health for NOT paying their help exorbitantly? She's a CLERK!

She gets the probably gets the same miserable pay the USA nurse helpers get - except the British woman HAS pretty much free HEALTHCARE!

The desperation of the Right to please their corporate masters' propaganda needs is incredible! Are you sure they pay YOU enough to come up with whacky ideas like this?

You should know by now that I'm not right wing. I actually support transitioning America to a socialized system, but I was trying to get some feedback on the UK system to understand the nurse's situation. Colonel K corrected me by pointing out that she actually worked for a private hospital rather than a public one.

So, in effect, my thread was based on a false assumption.

In the United States nurses are the highest paid for their level of higher education, so you're telling me if we implement obama care and national health care like socialist European countries the nurses will take a pay cut?

Capitalist health care makes our health care pay the staff the most money, because those who work and are wealthy need them to stay alive and feel they are the most important producers of our society

therefore their skills are very valuable, but in a socialist society doctors and nurses are not as valuable and are paid cheap so that everyone can have free health care.

if they lose their jobs they have nothing left to live for so that is probably why this nurse did the suicide
