People are bolting from two highly liberal states and it's taking a financial toll. With the drop in revenue you know the reparations being considered in New York and California are going to go nowhere. Having lived in CA for 21 years I know how they'll try to make up the difference: fees. They'll increase the vehicle registration price until that fee costs more than the car. They'll hike fees for access to state parks or making copies at government offices. They'll do it and I know it because they always have. New York will raise the tolls to use their bridges and tunnels, plus now they're developing a congestion tax for NYC. In both states, the use of any government service will have their fees raised.

In the end we all know their spending won't stop, ultimately they'll just raise taxes.

On the bright side NYC will have more room to house illegals.

And it will get worse. Unlike a business that cuts spending in the face of reduced sales, government will increase taxes to maintain spending raising taxes for everyone. They never get it right.

Clearly they need to raise taxes by 20%

New York State has been losing population and overall political influence for years. I remember back in the late 1960s when a liberal commentator said that the state had become a success because of the progressive leadership of liberals like Nelson Rockefeller and Jacob Javits. He had it all wrong, and the situation has gotten worse.

The state is overtaxed and over regulated. Progressive Democrats have replaced the liberal Republicans, and the decay has accelerated. If the stock exchanges ever moved out of the New York City, “The Big Apple” would look like East Orange and Newark, New Jersey. It would be a hell hole where an honest citizen could only survive with a house protected with machine gun nests and a pack of pit bulls or German shepherds.

The rot has come to New York sooner than California because the state has voted for demented politics longer and the climate is not nearly as good.

I think this is the result of a lack of available housing. Everyone who has a home isn't giving it up, and they aren't building new homes for a lack of available space or neighborhood protests, and those who do have a home probably have it locked in at a low rate.

If I remember correctly, the people in CA have to vote and approve new taxes, but fees can be raised on a whim. I don’t know the process for raising taxes in NY, it’s probably pretty easy since they tax everything to death.

You seem to be pretty familiar with NJ, are you from there?

When I was growing up I lived half a mile from the George Washington Bridge and the toll was 50 cents. Today the toll for a motorcycle is $13.75, for a car it's $14.75 and for a semi truck it's $120.00. I believe those prices are the same for all the bridges and tunnels in NYC.

I lived and worked in northern New Jersey in the 1970s. I went back to MBA school at Rutgers Newark. I was lucky. I only got mugged once. One of my friends told me stories about junkies shooting up in the parking garage. I rarely used it. I took the train to Newark when I could.

I spent a lot of time in New York City and had an intern job in the financial district before I ended up in the Boston area. I had a New York City girlfriend for a year or so, a real "up-town girl" like Billy Joel song. It was pretty glamorous, but I couldn't make a enough money to make that work.

They raised car registration fees here. Even though I don't use my truck for business, they insist its a commercial vehicle and hit me with $900.+ registration fees.

I miss the pizza and Broadway although there is a stock company, the Asolo theater in Sarasota that is excellent, and some A list road companies come to Tampa.

Really? I would think that would be a one time charge and then the normal registration fee would kick in.
