Here's the sequence of events: 1) Iran Threatens To Torpedo US Carriers In The Persian Gulf 2) US back to two carriers near Iran So, just to review here......Iran issued an ultimatum: Return two carriers to the Persian Gulf and we will attack them with our submarines..............And the subsequent American response was to send our second carrier back into the Persian Gulf. What do you think happens from here?
The point of this thread is that we are NOT letting Iran dictate our carrier movements. We did what we had planned to do with our carriers in spite of their threats.
That is not what your O.P. intimated. Perhaps you wrote it with a different meaning in mind? It came off as we were "responding" to Iran's threat. It was not what you intended?
Iran is a "tiny country" - dontcha know? [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ew5qP2oPdtQ&feature=related"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ew5qP2oPdtQ&feature=related[/ame]
Anything involving carriers and the gulf would be seen as a "response". The "response" was to ignore the threat and move the carriers back anyway.
After a nation state threatened to blow up one of our ships if we moved it near their country, I would say our subsequent action to move it back in was a calculated decision. What is your take?
That Iran is pulling the strings.... if this was not a scheduled event, they are playing Barack Obama. We should have just ignored the tiny little country on this issue.
This was a scheduled event. We had planned to move it back in anyway as part of normal operations. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/01/03/pentagon-officials-dismiss-iranian-warning-against-us-carrier-in-gulf/ But when Iran issued the threat, this regular movement became a decision point instead of business as usual.
Good, we'll place our Carriers wherever we think we need them for whatever reason. The bluff was called, and nothing will happen to them.
No doubt our subs have had the Iranian boats under surveillance since long before this threat. If one of them manuvers into a firing position and our sonar "hears" its muzzle door being opened, it will be sunk. Or . . . . . mikezila is right!!! Hopefully, Iran backs down before Obama does.
