Second Left Meme Bull(*)(*)(*)(*) post of the thread.

Right. The Left and Obama know more about the tenets of islam than do the ISLAMISTS. Got it.

Quite easily actually. People misinterpret religion to benefit themselves all the time, either accidentally (doubtful) or purposefully (much more likely).

    I disagree.

Says who? They (islamists) claim that those muslims NOT FIGHTING FOR THE CALIPHATE are "twisting the religion".

By saying ISIL / ISIS is not Islamic, he was jus throwing a bone to the Islam apologists out there.

I agree that humans are the problem, but tens, if not hundreds, of millions of Muslims subscribe to the same interpretation of Islam as Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi & Company. If anyone is going to claim that this interpretation amounts to "twisting" they'd better be prepared to defend their position on a theological level because ISIS, AQ, the Muslim Brotherhood, the Vilayat-e Faqih in Tehran, the Wahhabis in Saudi Arabia, the Deobandi "revivalists" in Pakistan, et al, have been promoting their "twisted" interpretation in Islamic religious institutions and madrassas for a very long time.

But how are they misinterpreting anything? They are literally following the central prophet of the religion's teachings and the way he lived his life.

You do realize that IslamIST is not the same as IslamIC, right? Or are you purposefully defending the radical, jihadist Muslims now?

ISIS is following the commands in the Qur'an and the life of Muhammad. That's a big problem for your narrative that they have nothing to do with Islam, a statement that you make based on nothing but a progressive desire to give oneself warm and fuzzies by defending a minority group.

You are committing a terminological inexactitude. But then you knew that.

They represent Islam as much as Robert Bales is a crusader.

When did I say "Islamist ideology is the problem"? You shouldn't quote me on saying that if I never said it. It's dishonest.

And there is no difference. Islam is Islam. There are those who follow it to the letter (terrorists) and those who ignore large swaths of the religion (moderates). Thankfully there are varying degrees of adherence in every belief system.

    That's not an explanation.

I'll refer you back to Post #30 and be prepared to defend your position next time.

Perhaps you would care to explain why so many Muslims (ex. M. Zuhdi Jasser) disagree with you? They see Islamism as an enormous problem to Muslims and non-Muslims alike, and since they tend to be the first and foremost victims of Islamists it's not hard to see why.

Using larger words than you are used to using isn't a valid substitute for a rebuttal. But then you knew that.

If ISIS supposedly represents "all of Islam"....can we apply that same standard to other groups and the violent extremists who spring out of them?

I think we all know who I'm talking about.

If the root cause of 'islamic terrorism' is islam, why didn't all islamic people became terrorists after 9/11, but only a very very small amount? Over a billion people in the world are islamic, and a few thousand became 'muslim terrorists', ISIS cannot have anything to do with islam.
IS is using islam to cause fight in the Iraqi and Syrian and western people, and politics is taking advantage of the situation.

There are extremists and radicals in every religion and/or ethnic group (for example ETA and IRA have used terror, but only a very small amount of Basque and Irisch people became extremes and, a very few of them have used terrorism, so the number of real terrorists is very small, they cannot ever take over the world if people do understand that, but politics is way more dangerous, because politicians have mass organisations, the parties, and or revolts or labour unions, and what not)
ETA and IRA have been dissolved by using diplomacy, so can ISIS.
There have been diplomatic round tables with the Taliban and a few interviews with Osama bin Laden as well. So there is always the option of communication (diplomacy) how radical they are.

Like Christians who ignore "love thy neighbor as thyself" and hate a lot of people, but still call themselves "Christians"?

Of course. You DO REALIZE that the islamists, use the LATER Islamic teachings of the Qur'an, and the hadiths, as their justification?

Feel free to reread that part as often as you need to for it to sink in, Gorn.

Oh, you were deflecting, my mistake.

The POTUS stated the obvious...obvious that is to anyone that has a brain. The people that join this terrorist group are mostly psychopaths that found a place where killers, rapists, sadists and the like can commit heinous crimes against humanity while being part of a group of kindred spirits and not be punished for acting on their criminal impulses and blood lust. Religion has about as much to do with their actions as the Westboro Baptist Church has to do with theirs. Hitler successfully created an army of Nazi war criminals in the same way. Things tend to crawl out of the woodwork when they have a place to call home and a group to accept and celebrate their perversions.

Sorry, my bad. Cubed quoted both you and Grok in his post, and I only saw your name. The quote was from Grok. Apologies.

Islamism is more radical than mainstream Islam. That's why there is a different word to describe it.

Another clueless progressive who would rather stick up for a minority group than accept facts about Islam and its well-documented history.

These Islamic fighters routinely cite Qur'anic passages and the life of Muhammad as their inspiration. Yet we are to believe that the Rachel Maddow watching demographic in this country who routinely defy reality in order to give themselves multicultural warm-and-fuzzies understands their religion better than they do.

    Unbelievable.

I was not aware that there were any teachings of the Koran that were any later than other teachings. Do you mean later in the book?

Please cite al the hundreds of churches where the "Westboroists" are congregating, as are ismalsists in THOUSANDS of MOSQUES worldwide, including in the US.

Amazing how the left keeps trying the "it isn't really islam" meme.
