I am always amazed by birther-ism.

It seems that this entire nonsense is dedicated to spawning new conspiracy theories as each is successively shot down with a fact missle.

Hmmm. Not sure what that has to do with the president's social security number. Is this a new conspiracy? Are the president and Putin long lost siblings? Was Putin also born in Kenya?

you'd think that if birthers really wanted to affect change in American politics away from the liberal-progressive policies of Obama and the democrats, that they would take a big deep breath and realize that they lost the election in November, Obama is going to be their president for the next four years, and if they want to avoid Hillary trouncing their next candidate, they'd all better start figuring out how to market themselves as a wiser and mature bunch of folks than the way they are perceived by most Americans - crazy birthers who obsessively and insanely wrap themselves around any available axle, whether it's birth certificates of Social Security Numbers, or skeet shooting photographs. They need to wake up and wake up fast to avoid eight years of Barack followed by eight years of Hillary. After that, the Supreme Court will be 9-0 young liberal judges and conservatism in America will be mortally wounded for the first half of this century.

thanks for the advice. our country is strong and the constitution provides for swings of the political pendulum. that includes room for challenging the possible misuse of presidential power, as in the cases of johnson (andrew), nixon, clinton, and maybe obama. as long as it is the will of the people, i'm ok with waiting for the next chapter. i like being a birther, it's really interesting. i've always gone against the mainstream groupthink, i don't care if it's popular what i do. also, i don't really care that much about either party, there are good and bad things about both.

your quote doesn't make much common sense. conservatism will always be part of this great country. you also assume that 16 years of democrats will make us so much better. if the last four years are the proof of that, i would say not so much. things always have a way of evening out.

We can agree to disagree about the net effects of 16 years of a democratic president. I think it will make us so much better and you, clearly, do not. What we can agree on, I would think, is that for better or worse, 16 straight years of a democrat in the white house will CHANGE this country ... and the one obvious lasting impact will be the make up of the supreme court, and the rest of the federal bench, for that matter.

I fully agree that conservatism will always be a part of America. I will agree that America will always be a "center-right" nation. What I understand, and you and your fellow conservatives can't seem to grasp, is that the "center" is not a fixed point on the political spectrum. It has been moving inexorably leftward for well over a hundred years. Things that were considered FAR LEFT WACKY ideas a hundred years ago are right smack dab in the middle of American political thought today. That's progress. That's the subtle incontrovertible victory of liberalism manifesting itself over and over and over and over again in little tiny steps to the left.

And don't mistake DEMOCRAT with LIBERAL or PROGRESSIVE. They are not always synonymous, and they certainly have NOT been so many times in the past century.

But liberal, progressive ideas have always won out over conservative ideas regardless of which party was their champion. Progressives in America wanted to end slavery, conservatives did not. Progressives wanted to give women the right to vote, conservatives did not. Progressives wanted to end the exploitation of child labor, conservatives did not. Minimum wage... same thing. 40 hour workweek... same thing. Union organization... same thing. Environmental protection... same thing. Social Security... same thing. Civil rights, voting rights, ADA, Medicare, Medicaid, gay rights, AFDC, WIC.... you name it.... same thing. The classic example of this shift was the sign that a ********* held up at a rally in 2010: "Keep your socialist hands off my medicare". I doubt that the fellow who painted that sign had any idea of the delicious irony it contained.

Conservatives will always EXIST in America, they will just be trying to "conserve" things fifty years from now that are only progressive dreams today. As had as they try, conservatives will NEVER turn back the tide of liberal progressivism. They will, when they are at their most powerful and influential stages in the pendulum arc, only be able to momentarily impede its progress.

Sit back and enjoy the ride.

here's a short story. i was born in cook county in 1960. mayor daley was mayor.

flash forward50 plus years later, and (chicago/cook have never really had a republican party),

after all those years of pure democrat rule, complete democrat rule, after years of democrat idealism and progressive attitudes, after michelle robinson being the second mayer daley's assistant, and barack obama (bill ayers) taking the annenberg challange to new heights in community organising...after all of that...after half a century of progressive mantra, and hundreds of millions of dollars....

last year, in democrat chicago.... 500 people (mostly black kids) were shot dead.

after all of that "forward" thinking, in my entire lifetime, nothing has changed...

so why should i believe you when you try to peddle "hope and change" ?? the last four years ??, obama gets a D.

    people are sick of it.

I could care less if you "believe" me or not, and I certainly am not "peddling" anything. I have merely stated the historically obvious. Another factor that is historically obvious - and made clear by your post- is that progressives take a long view while conservatives live and die by the last election or two. You may say that people are sick of it especially in Chicago..yet the mayor is a democrat. There is no awesome groundswell of anti-democratic feeling in Chicago, or anywhere else. Just like you don't see a groundswell of public opinion seeking to repeal medicare, or social security, or civil rights or women's suffrage. Look long term, not in terms of election cycles, but in decades - and longer than that - and you'll see that progressivism always wins, and it always will.

tell that to teddy roosevelt... i mean if he was still alive. the pendulum swings in this country, i'm sure things will get better in chicago real soon now.

Were he alive today, Teddy would undoubtedly be a New York liberal democrat. Lincoln, similarly, would not be associated with big business, pro-rich conservative republicans, *********s, OR bible thumping social conservative republicans either.

I listed a whole litany of progressive liberal accomplishments over the past century. It is my assertion that nearly all of these have lost their original identity as wacko left wing progressive causes and have been subsumed into mainstream, middle of the road, "center-right", widely accepted policies. Can you refute that assertion or are you just gonna tap dance instead? Can you show me instances where far left concepts were first incorporated into the center of American political thought only then to be successfully banished by conservatives who reversed that acceptance?

The jury is still out on whether some increases in gun control will be passed in the wake of Sandy Hook.... but, suffice it to say that, if that's all you've got - and it really is just about all you've got - that is tantamount to admitting the validity of my premise, is it not?

In the past century, progressives have succeeded in moving the center of the debate - and the center of American political ideology - hard to the left. What was so far out of the mainstream as to be high and dry on the wacky left bank of the river of our political discourse a century ago, is smack dab in the middle of the main shipping channel now. And there are NO signs that that century long leftward trend is changing course whatsoever.

no, basically i think you are right. with the advent of enhanced global communication, both wings have expanded dramatically. the past republican primaries are a good example.

so called "mainstream" avenues such as nbc, have filled out the liberal spectrum. some say fox is extreme. the days of the gray lady and walter cronkite are gone forever. citizen journalism is the new boom, which makes me happy to have an alternate place to go. today's media actively shapes the narrative. some are better at it than others.

    from the internet:

The nation has a right to know who is committing high treason: 9 justices of the Supreme Court of clerks, who hide the pleadings and sworn affidavits from justices. For that reason plaintiffs respectfully demand signatures of the justices on the order or on the front page of the application. If there are no actual signatures of the justices the plaintiffs and the nation as a whole will know that the justices never saw a word of pleadings an the case was “ruled upon” by court employees with unknown allegiance.

    lol, birthers.

they're so used to losing that they already have their excuses for when the court slaps them down.

Well you know how it works with Birthers.

They make the claim and then they demand that you do the research because they don't have time for all those 'facts' and things...
