The chickens will come home to roost. Obama says it will help the economy to extend unemployment benefits. Please tell me... how do you get six gallons of water out of a five gallon bucket? Or a hundred dollars fro a ten dollar bill.
I am not saying the unemployed don't need a bailout but saying it will improve the economy is dishonest.

Common sense and a teeth-gritting restraint forbid me from elaborating on what I think should happen to any president who tries to pull this kind of crap. But, as Bob Dylan wrote so long ago, "You don't need a weather man to know which way the wind blows." Besides, even if somehow, magically, Obama were no longer president, we'd be stuck with that other autocratic, Constitution-hating son-of-a-*****, Joe Biden. So what good could come of that...? But, with nothing standing between us and these rotten, stinking socialist bastards in the Obama regime but a bunch of cowardly, idiot RINO's, we're ****ed already anyway!

Doesn't make much difference what Obama says most sane people quit listening to him a long time ago.

 

What exactly is "our" auto industry? The one the union owns or the one that the Italians now own? Or, was it the many that got cheated out of market share that didn't seek rent from the tax payers? The vast majority of autos sold in the US are built in the US. GM and Chrysler buy the same amount of LCC parts as any of the others.

 

So, there wasn't additional hiring in Birmingham, AL or Jackson, MS so that these folks could keep their jobs. Go figure, a politician recognizing the positive while dismissing the net negative results to sell an unwarranted expenditure to the public.

FACT: There were many other OEMs primed to consume this market.
FACT: They would have hired US workers at the same rate
FACT: GM did go bankrupt, there is now a new company in its place
FACT: We spent a lot of money to prop up the UAW

 

Why is it so important for you guys to single out a company to benefit from tax revenue or in this case, from federal borrowing? Do you know how many industry leaders have risen and fallen over the last 50 years. The market works, and it is a helluva lot cheaper.

For those that haven't noticed... this thread is two (2) years old.

 

This is laughable. If not for the GMAC loaning dept, the unions would have bankrupted GM in the early 2000's. Once GMAC bit the dust, it was inevitable. Their unfunded pension liabilities are a giant boat anchor. Not to mention, management of the economies of scale that come with being that big was typical, slow, unresponsive and ultimately too late to compete with better managed companies.

 

The issue of an autocrat ruling the country by decree, however, is squarely in the headlines today. Go back in this thread and check the stories at the links in my Post #31, written yesterday.
