Obesity becomes a national security issue

Conservatives on this forum have gone after Michelle Obama and NYC for trying to make school lunches healthier, getting junk food machines out of our schools, and eliminating giant pop sizes at corner stores and fast food places. Now there is a reason to reconsider their stance; the "epidemic" of obesity is threatening national security.

Recently, the U.S. military has found that one in four potential recruits were obese (too fat too enlist). Combined with the ongoing-probllem of obesity among the REMFs in the military, the Pentagon has decided that this is a threat to American might and that steps need to be taken to reduce obesity in the population. Does the right to get fat supersede the right of Americans to be properly defended?

I guess it's the idea of Michelle Antoinette and Michael Bloomberg sitting around the eternal flame on Mount Olympus deciding what the rest of us can or cannot eat.

There must be limits to how far government is allowed to go in managing our lives for us.

There should be a line that the government is not allowed to cross and what we choose to eat seems like a sensible place to me.

 

Not to mention the article claiming recruits are 'too fat to enlist.'

Seeing as how the military provides recruits 3 meals a day and has total control over their exercise program... doesn't seem like this would be a problem to me. Are we saying Michelle & Bloomberg have more bully power than the military?

 

Obesity is a problem for the US military.

The Army and Marines demand men and women who are physically fit and can meet tough minimum standards that many 18-year old lardbutts may not qualify for.

US Marines tend to be more gung-ho and self motivated than those who join the Army but being a volunteer force neither service can afford to turn everyone away.

The problem is the cultural shock of spending their whole lives sitting in front of a tv screen or a computer monitor snacking on buttered popcorn for 18 years and then having to become physically fit in 8 weeks of boot camp.

Many young people can't make the transition and tend to give up too easily.

That's what makes the military a special place because it does represent the best America has to offer.

But having said all that the Obama/Bloomberg food Gestapo is not the answer either.

Even if they lost the weight, a huge number would balloon back up when they start choosing how much, and what they eat.

I've seen this coming for a long time now, and personally, IM SICK of looking at fat people, and I've started commenting in public about it.

What I havent heard is a real solution, not a band aid. But thats what liberals like to do, create problems with policies, then treat the problems with other stupid band aids rather than admitting their ideas were bad in the first place.

We can start with unmitigated no fault divorce, it will be the driving force to the collapse of our country as the worlds top power.

Then add cell phones, computers, social media, videos, etc, etc, etc.

But all of those above, cell phones, computers, etc wouldnt make much of a difference if not for no fault divorce.

Alot of people in the field who supported no fault divorce, have said, "see, the kids can handle it",,,but apparently they arent.

When little ronnie goes to school, his female teacher is with him all day, and she has a hard time because he is restless.

Then he comes home to his sisters, and he just watches tv.
Then mom comes home and little ronnie is giving her a hard time, cuz she just wants to relax, but he wants to play baseball.
So she sends him to his room to play videos, yea, that will take care of him for a while.
Then back to school the next day where they cant handle his over activity any more, so they make up a condition called ADHD, and give him ritalyn and other drugs to sedate him.

Now, we have a drugged up kid playing violent videos and has no male role models, but is seeing lots of secuctively dressed big titted women, people mindlessly killing others, and nobody to play active games with, nobody to give him proper discipline,

I agree it's a problem. But nonetheless, the MAJORITY of people in America are not obese and the MAJORITY of people who are classified as obese are healthy.

Making rules to punish the majority because of sins of the minority has never made sense to me... mainly because it never works.

 

So when we are at the point where we are able to play with our genes, will the RW religious nut-jobs allow it, or will they say, we cannot play 'god'?

 

The majority of American's are overweight AND/OR obese. Obese is just one of the more extreme classifications of weight. There is another category called morbidly obese.

And I would really like a link and a quote for your outlandish statement that, "the MAJORITY of people who are classified as obese are healthy." Right wing ignorance is astonishing. Let me ask you a question. Are you and your husband fat?

 

If the scientists ever find a gene thats responsible for the homosexual birth defect libs may take a different attitude toward genetic engineering.

And here is your answer: The religious RW nut-jobs will not allow it, because they will claim we are playing 'god'.

This is why religion is so dangerous. We can cure many diseases, including obesity by tinkering with our genes. We can increase the human life span to immortality so we can spread life throughout the universe. But the religious will not allow it. Religion is the biggest threat to society today, and you just saw why.

 

Well the first consequence of the discovery of a "gay gene" will be to make Republicans look as bad as Nazis. You might as well be going out and eating Chick fil A while praying for the death of children with cystic fibrosis at that point. I have seen no concrete evidence for the existence of a genetic basis for homosexuality. On the other hand I've not seen anything that definitively rules it out. I just don't want to be one of those people 30 years from now looking like a complete bigoted idiot.

Still leaves them with 3 out of those 4 recruits. Recruits get turned down from enlistment for a host of different things, this attention to obesity is just more opinion steering to enable more control of peoples choices.

 

As usual Republican Concern Trolls only worry about a nonviable ball of cells in the womb while casually spitting on living breathing adults with feelings. The discovery of a "gay gene" if it ever definitively occurs will be the death knell of much of Western organized religion.
