https://www.bostonglobe.com/opinion...wn/iEB3er7JxycYcWWsI1KpXI/story.html#comments So is the GOP ready to shutdown the Governmemt? As it stands today, the GOP can't even get a proposal thru the House, a majority based body which doesn't even need a single Democrat vote to succeed If they do manage to get something out of the House, the sixty votes required in the Senate is questionable, they even have GOP Senators ready to defect And where is the President during all of this, providing leadership, nah, too busy tweeting and playing golf Two days remaining
That's because they know that a continuing resolution just needs a simple majority vote so they shouldn't even need Democrat's votes to get it past the Senate. In addition, once again, you have GOPers cheering about the thought of a shutdown. If the gov't shuts down, it's all on the GOP's shoulders.
Yup, thank the Democrats and Dreamers for the shutdown and Americans can ask why they aren't as important....right before the 2018 elections.
how is republican incompetence the fault of democrats? There is NOTHING the democrats can do to prevent the republican budget.
Democrats are the ones who are going to be hung out to dry...again....if DACA slips. Just the way it is, they've hitched themselves to the DACA horse. http://thehill.com/latino/366133-activists-slam-dem-leaders-over-failure-to-secure-daca-fix Trump has agreed to work with them on this, but they haven't given him what he wants in return. It wont be the GOP who wears this albatross.
How? The Republicans are in the majority. They can just pass it with a simple majority or even a tie that gives Pence the tie-breaker. The only way the Democrats could obstruct this is if they decide to filibuster which they are unlikely to do, unlike Senator Ted Cruz and his "Green Eggs And Ham Speech."
Riiight. It's funny that you think that Trump is working with anyone on this. This is Trump's "work" schedule: Obese with a chance of putting.
Ohhhhh, a scary shutdown, there were riots in the streets last time that happened. Oh wait, nobody noticed, and nobody will notice if it shuts down again. Since liberals are whining the most about this, its clear they are to blame, as per their normal modus operandi...
Not fooling anyone with this, it will be your Albatross. You know it, I know it...all of America knows it. DACA is the Democrats baby. if the Govt shuts down on Citizens, and theres even a mention of DACA being involved...it wont be good for your party.
I see you don't understand basic civics. Republicans hold both houses of congress, and the presidency. Democrats can do NOTHING to stop their budget.
Because DACA is the Democrats baby. Obama launched it, and the Democrats have pinned themselves to it. You can't pass that to the GOP now. If the Government shuts down, and theres even a whiff of DACA involved, it's going to be on your Democrats.
I don't agree. The republicans are blaming democrats for obstructing and yet they control a majority in every house if government. This is nothing less then an abject failure to lead.
Well, one wonders why the Democrats even came to try and hammer out a DACA deal then doesn't it? If they thought it was all going to smash the GOP regardless, I don't think they would have even bothered do you? They know it's associated with their "brand".
which has nothing to do with democrats shutting down the government, since they are not able to. how? again, reality smacks conservatives in the face. REPUBLICANS OWN BOTH HOUSES OF CONGRESS AND THE PRESIDENCY. They can do nothing to shut down the government.
The Republicans just need a simple majority, which they have, to pass whatever they want in the Senate. So how are the Democrats "obstructing" like you are claiming?
TRUST ME... those are 2 of the best possible actions for Trump to take during any substantive policy negotiations... let the adults work things out and then let Mr. Cognitive Test get his big Trumpian signature on those results.. he said he would sign whatever they put in front of him.... let's put that theory to the test.... Things have a 98% better chance of working out WITHOUT him than WITH him.... SNIP "You guys are going to have to come up with a solution [for DACA], and I'm going to sign that solution," Trump said during a bipartisan meeting of House and Senate leaders at the White House on Tuesday morning. ENDSNIP
Yeah, sure thing lol. https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/jan/17/senate-democrats-dig-shutdown-fight-over-daca/ Good luck trying to claim Democrats had nothing to do with a shutdown Rahl. Don't be surprised though if 2018 turns out badly for you. America doesn't always listen to Democrat damage control or rebranding as the Recent Presidential Election showed.
Republicans aren't all a hive-mind Todd, as you already know. There might need to be some working across the aisle unfortunately. isn't that what we're told people want? And Democrats are already digging in their obstruction heels over DACA.
