Perhaps abuse could exist but possible abuses can for the most part be anticipated and prevented through statutory regulation. As basically achnowledged above the ability of the individual was to be compensated for their organs it would result in more organs being available than the current reliance on purely altruistic voluntary donations and the problem is an inadequite supply of donor organs. While allowing the individual to sell their organs under regulated conditions may not resolve the shortage of organs completely it would certainly provide more organs for transplants than what we're doing now. How many people's lives are we willing to sacrifice simply because of a prohibition against individuals selling their organs? It seems silly to me to allow anyone to die because we're not using every available means for securing organ donors and compensation would certainly increase the number of individual organ donors.
This is excellent news and I'm happy for both you and your husband. Sadly many people are less fortunate because donors are not available.
