Saw Hatch on TV this morning saying that the states should be providing health care for its citizens based on the states democraphics (using federal money and minimum guidelines of course). So he opposes Obamacare. Makes me think that the Republicans will forever be opposed to everything one way or the other, using one lame excuse or another. I'm absolutely positive that if Obama said "sure, let's do that", the government-haters have a ready-made excuse for shooting down the Hatch Plan. Most likely, Hatch himself has a face-saving excuse for shooting down his own plan. Those are not the issues, however. The first issue is that cancer and cystic fibrosis do not depend on a state's demographics. Neither do cavities (except maybe in Arkansas and Tennessee). The second issue is that if relatively progressive states like Minnesota choose to provide comprehensive cancer care and march-to-the-past state like Iowa decide to provide onion poultices, what's to prevent a cancer-ridden Iowa resident from simply getting an address in Minnesota, as they've already been doing for decades and as Sarah Palin's own parents used to do with Canada? Gimmee a break, Republicans, and get your heads in the game.
