Bethlehem - PNN - Palestinian Christian leaders from Bethlehem have called upon Honduras to recognise Palestine as an independent state at the United Nations in September.

The message was delivered in a letter to the Honduran Foreign Minister Mario Canahuati, signed by the mayors of Bethlehem (Dr. Victor Batarseh), Beit Jala (Raji Zeidan), and Beit Sahour (Hani Hayek) as well as members of the Palestinian Legislative Council, Fayez Saqqa and Fouad Kokali and the head of the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Samir Hazboun.

The letter stated that “What we seek is the establishment of a free and sovereign Palestinian state as well as the consolidation of our natural and historic rights. This does not violate the rights of anyone. On the contrary, it is a great step towards peace.”

The letter included background information on Bethlehem district saying “We have control over less than 14% of our district. The rest has been occupied for the expansion of illegal settlements and Israeli military bases. Hundreds of homes have been demolished and thousands of hectares have been expropriated, which directly undermines the possibility of a sovereign Palestinian state.”

Continuing it stated: “Israel has built roads on our occupied country for the exclusive use of Israelis. It has designed a system of movement restrictions that has devastated our city through several checkpoints and the illegal Israeli Wall. These restrictions have resulted in one of the saddest consequences of the occupation of our land: that for first time in 2000 years of Christianity, Bethlehem and Jerusalem are divided with an 8-meters high wall, built on confiscated land that belongs to Palestinians from Bethlehem.”

“The occupation and systematic discrimination that Israel has imposed over our people is going to fall just as the South African Apartheid did. This is an irreversible process supported by the great majority of the peoples around the world. Currently, 122 countries recognize Palestine, including nine out of the ten most populated; their combined populations account for 75% of the world’s population,” they said, adding, “It is time for the rest of the countries to take the decision to be on the right side of history. We do not expect from Honduras anything less than your recognition of the Palestinian State and the ratification of the historical Honduran vote in support of Palestine in the United Nations.”

The letter concluded by inviting the Honduran Foreign Minister to spend the first Christmas in the independent state of Palestine this year.

Honduras needs the American right if it is to live. The Hondurans can choose to live or to die. Their fate is in their own hands.

Good thread. Jerusalem is a holy place to more religious people than just muslims and jews. The original partition division , UNGAR 181, called for Jerusalem to be International Territory. The sooner that the brutal Zionist grip on it is relinquished the better. It is occupied illegally.

I'm impressed in a bad way. Albert Di Salvo condemns the Palestinians as being terrorists (including the Christian ones, apparently), but sees no contradiction in threatening Honduras with massive reprisals (was that economic or military or both?) for making a foreign policy decision regarding a country that is NOT the United States of America. Surely such behavior would make American Christians terrorists and not the Palestinian Christians.

There is a world of difference between recognizing that the Palestinian are a nation and saying that palestine is a nation (as in country).

For exemple, here in Canada, both the natives and Quebec are recognized as nations but neither has any sovereignty over their respective territories.

And in any case, not all country are equals. Most if not all of the G8 are behind Israel so you can forget about them doing anything to harm her.

I think you are optimistic regarding support for Israel.

Most of the world wants Israel to survive by seeking a just peace.

It's a fact that many native Canadians own their own territory. It's still part of the country of Canada but the land belongs to them. If they say ' git ' you'd better git.
The Palestinian nation has rights to all of Palestine , rights which can be successfully defended in court- that is when Zionists can be dragged , kicking and screaming, into court in the first place.

I think you're the one being optimistic on the arab side of the equation. The more they continue in mocking the western power the more they will be stepped on when the west giant wakes up.

The Arab natural ressources of interest for the west are quickly being depleted and/or replaced by more easilly accessible sources, like Canada and China.

Have you watched TV lately... All those advertisement for Natural gas, bio diesel... All locally available. Plus, North America as more untapped oil than all the gulf states combined, plus the biggest uranium deposit, gold, silver etc. etc.

The only ressource left in the arab world is cheap labor... And even then the chinese and India or Vietnam are more stable investment market.

As for just peace... The arabs could have gotten it in 1948, but instead they tried to go against the world decision regarding that track of land seized from the ottoman empire at the end of WW1... Too bad they lost. Then they lost again and again... There are consequences in losing wars that you start.

Hell since Jordan and Syria were also created from the same WW1 accord, maybe the pallis can petition them for land. After all, if Israel can't exist because of that injust accord, they so does Jordan and Syria. But for some reason, only the jews in Israel should make concession...
