It is amazing how self-centered some people are. This is why I don't buy the argument that people that stay home and/or wear masks are "just cowards hiding out". This is a prime example of why there are valid reasons that one cannot risk being in public.
This is why those from us from Foxboro always say that Attleboro kids are stupid. That includes North Attleboro.
This is on the parents. Beyond that, there needs to be some kind of law for willingly and knowingly exposing someone to a potentially life-threatening illness. This is just crazy on so many levels.
I know. We should really freak out about it. Panicking is always the way to go. Everybody into their underground bunkers! We got a live one! lol
I'm not sure why you think that, but okay. I don't find really find it funny that someone knowingly let their COVID-19-positive kid attend school where 30 others were infected and had to be quarantined. How many of those people infected others? Is it funny even if ONE of those subsequent contacts dies from it? And, asking that question does NOT mean that someone is running in the streets screaming and carrying on.
England is going to charge £1000 for a first offence of not isolating and £10,000 for a second. A woman in Australia was given a 6 month sentence for not going home to self isolate but going to her boyfriends home - though I hear the 6 months was reduced. These parents have acted with no conscience ofrthought for the welfare of others. There is though another reason why people do not obey self isolating orders and that is simply that they need the money from work which they cannot do from home - and that would include being at home looking after a child. On that Scotland has decided that rather than fining them £1000 for first and £10,000 for second offence, people who cannot work from home and who hav ea job will receive £500 for the two weeks isolation.
I'm sorry, but I can't fully agree with you. This kid is in high school. He should understand the importance of his staying home.
Your posts seem a lot like someone in a complete panic. Don't send your kids to school. You're a parent, you have a choice. Homeschool the kid. And if you want to be less alarmed, check out the children between 5-16 fatality rates compared to everyone else. https://services.aap.org/en/pages/2...hildren-and-covid-19-state-level-data-report/
It sounds like they are taking things seriously in those places. I wonder how much it will take before the US follows suit. It's sad that so many are willing to overlook the number of infected (possibly with long-term health problems as a result) and number of deaths. Yes, people die every day, but it's possible that so many died needlessly because someone dropped the ball. I agree. The child is old enough to know better but the parents are ultimately responsible. What if the kid wanted to quarantine and the parents said "No"? At the end of the day, it's the parents that will be responsible in a court of law (if it gets to that point).
What do you think would be a fair punishment for intentionally (or, at least, showing apathy toward others) spreading it? The ripple effect, alone, could number in the hundreds, if not more. You are funny. No, I'm not alarmed and I'm not an alarmist. Regardless, experts have always said they simply don't know everything there is to know about the virus, so there is no telling what tomorrow's advice will be. Would you willingly let your kids go to school knowing they are infected? Would you willingly let your kid go to school where there might be other kids who are infected? Would you willingly let your kid go to school if they could contract the illness, be asymptomatic but could potentially have long-term health problems such as heart disease? I am a parent so this matters to me. It doesn't mean I'm being hysterical or pessimistic. It means I am responsible for my children's safety and well-being.
Some parents are using public school like their own personal free daycare for their children, and counting on someone else to look after their child, while they are both going to work. Anywhere you have high costs of housing and a large segment of low income immigrants - stuff like this is going to happen.
The OP has nothing to do with my personal life so your armchair psychiatry is pointless. In case you didn't read it, the article is about a teen being sent to school when his/her parents KNEW he/she was COVID-19 positive and other people were infected as a result of that selfish behavior. My children and their schooling have nothing to do with it.
Children 0-5 are reported as being as bad as over 12's in passing it on. Children 5-12 are believed to be unlikely to pass on the virus. For that reason in Scotland they are allowed to do a bit more than most people - lets hope they are right there. Children 12-18 are believed to be as bad as adults passing it on and so need to take the same precautions as adults. It isn't just the children catching it, it is also them passing it on to parents, grandparents and other loved ones.
You are the one who made this personal, literally, by saying it's personal to you because YOU'RE a parent. So as a parent, if that concerns you, why are you sending your kids to a bacteria infected school? When one kid gets sick with anything contagious, they all get sick. It's how school works. They are constantly interacting...it's what happens at school. Strep throat for example, one kid gets it, spreads like a wild fire. If you're concerned (which it seems like you are) then simply don't send your kids to the bacteria factory. Home school them. Wouldn't that solve your problems and ease your fears?
I say that we institute the "pre-crime" unit. We should imprison anyone who might catch covid, and since it's so "life threatening" , we will all be safer.
That's an idea. Or, maybe we can have a real live "Thought Police" so people are imprisoned and punished for having "bad" thoughts. That way, nobody has to get their feelings hurt because the would-be aggressors are already in jail before doing harm. I have another idea. How about people try to respond to the posts, as written, instead of being passive-aggressive and sarcastic?
I'm not a lawyer or cop and I've never played one on TV, but I would think a punishment along the lines of assault with a deadly weapon or aggravated assault and if he directly infects someone who dies, up that to manslaughter or 2nd degree murder. It's too hard to trace and prove anything beyond direct infection to make it stick. That being said, I think mask wearing and social distancing should be a personal decision. As my whole family is immune for a while, I feel silly wearing a mask everywhere and further exposure should only bolster my immunity and promote herd immunity. I have no problem with anybody who wants to wear a mask or do their jobs on line if possible. I have elderly to protect and I do take that seriously. My son brought the covid to my house and we all got it. We didn't pass it to a single person that we know of. We quarantined for a month because we didn't all get it at the same time.
Trump would be proud of these parents actions easy for Trump as his children won't be returning to school yet
HIV is not spread by air, but it is against the law to know you have it and not tell someone you have sex with
A cursory look shows that it depends on the state. I imagine these types of laws are evolving as we learn more and more about the virus and its long-term health implications. https://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/is-it-a-crime-to-intentionally-get-someone-sick.html
It may be illegal, but it's no longer a felony. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/...felony-knowingly-transmit-HIV-California.html
I disagree with that, I understand the conflict, if they make it a felony, no one gets tested, but if they make it too low of a crime no one cares I would leave it as a felony, same with Corona
I wish others were as conscientious as you have been. We wouldn't have to have all these mandates if people would get out of their own heads and consider the long-term "costs" to society, as a whole. I'm glad you all pulled through!
