That story about the B-2 is false.

Do you have a source you can share?

Nope. But I'd simply point out that the B-2 served without untoward incident in the Gulf War, Kosovo/Balkans, Iraq War and Afghanistan.

I think the B-2 has been very useful and effective especially since it does not have to land outside the CONUS.

The review of the book you cited referred to problems with its use against our deadliest potential enemies, Russia and China.

“The escalating cost of the B-2 program and evidence of flaws in the aircraft's ability to elude detection by radar[41] were among factors that drove opposition to continue the program.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northrop_Grumman_B-2_Spirit#cite_note-Schmitt-41

Yes, and . . . ? The fact that our principal adversaries would have the most challenging countermeasures should surprise no one, and is unrelated to espionage.

The fact that the design of the B-2 was compromised by a CIA officer/Soviet spy to diminish its effectiveness against Russia and China means that it would have been better to spend the revenue on weapons systems that would actually work as a deterrent.
    Assuming that is still possible.

    Except none of that happened.

Except that my source, citing your source, says that the B-2 program was compromised by the KGB by a CIA traitor, Edward Lee Howard.

    “Arrest and execution
After being captured in 1985, Tolkachev collaborated with KGB in hopes of reduced punishment. Over the next ten months, he fed the CIA with falsified information which the CIA gladly took since they had the utmost trust in Tolkachev.

Data, which was “cooked” at KGB Lubyanka headquarters slowed down the development of US stealth bomber. Once Americans developed stealth bomber, codenamed B-2 Spirit, generals in Pentagon were shocked — their 30 billion dollars worth bomber was invisible only to US anti-aircraft systems.
In 1986 Tolkachev was sentenced to death and executed. His wife Natasha was sentenced to three years in prison.”

IMO, Intelligence assessments should always be considered suspect.
Clandestine spy agencies are to traitors as honey is to flies.

Tolkachev was likely compromised by both Howard and Aldrich Ames. Neither had access to nor compromised B-2 information.

Read the article: Tolkachev compromised the B-2 after he was betrayed by a CIA traitor.

Traitors like Ames and Howard compromise everything they touch, from the intelligence agencies they have infected to the consumers of enemy compromised intelligence.

Tolkachev could not compromise a program (B-2) to which he had no access.
