The president's power to pardon, and the Congress's power to impeach do not intersect the way you seem to imagine. President Trump can issue himself a pardon, and it's chances of protecting him from criminal prosecution remain the same whether he is impeached or not. An impeached president's pre-impeachment pardons are not somehow magically undone by Impeachment, just like his court nominees remain, as well as any laws he's signed, etc.

It's unclear if Trump can pardon himself. It's certainly an interesting discussion and would love to see SCOTUS take it up.

If Trump wins, he's free of his crimes. If he loses, he goes to federal prison.
