NY GOPer William Powers urges a Perry-Giuliani ticket

Decision 2012: Rick Perry and Rudy Giuliani

    Perry and . . . Giuliani?

There's actually going to be an intriguing dilemma for the republican nominee to wrestle with in choosing a running mate. Young GOP stars like Rubio have taken themselves out of consideration in order to focus on their current roles and gain experience (which seems wise). But Rubio also seems destined for the white house. So how will that play out in the GOP nominee choosing a running mate this time around? Let's say Perry picks a young running mate and wins the general election. And then get's reelected in 2016. This means the VP choice would be the nominee in 2020, which could be a time when a candidate with the appeal of Rubio may desperately be needed.

One solution may be to do the Cheney thing again (and for that matter the Joe Biden thing). Pick a VP candidate that would want to retire after 8 years. For this reason I'm really liking the Giuliani scenario. He's 68 years old now. If Perry does pick him (as the rumors are indicating) would Rudy really be interested in running for president at 72 or 78 years old? I highly doubt it. This would pave the way for a young star like Rubio in 2020, maybe even sooner. Perry may not be able to hold his nose in Washington anymore after 4 years.

Some thoughts, pros and cons about Giuliani as a running mate.

Here's some pros in my estimation:

He'll outclass Biden on every level in the VP debate.
    He's an american hero.
He's quick on his feet with the media.
He could very well deliver the northern states to the GOP.
He'd be looked at as a very competent replacement for the president if he needed to step in due to an emergency.
He'll move on after serving paving the way for Rubio.

    Cons?

His pro choice record may not sit well with social conservatives, though he's made a lot of effort to close the gap with pro-lifers.
Same with this gun control record.

I personally would have no issue with the above cons, even as a social conservative. I think he's more pro life and pro gun than he seems.
