Yes, the Ferengi are right. Near the end of the Vietnam War, the US went off the gold standard. But part of the US, the infamous Military Industrial Complex, robs the rest of the US. Since the M.I.C. has the lobbyists they get rich and everyone else gets poor. I would call that corruption, but it's been going on for a long time and we tolerate it.
