    No I dont know how to play 9 ball. I havent read all the details but I think you can sign up and play friends. Im playing as a guest. Im telling you, some of these people are excellent. The shots are wicked impressive. You have to try it if you like pool and you can post comments. They are canned ones. Oh wait, If you ever play me as a guest I aim the pointer to call the 8 ball shot and I never center brake.

    9 ball basics... shots are taken in rotation/sequence (1 ball, 2 ball...). 9 is the money ball. Shots called.

    A faster game than 8. Best game if playing for serious money (IMO).

    Here is an example...

    Falena,

    If you want to practice your 9 ball game in a bar/tavern where 8 ball is normally played (table drops 15 balls), you will obviously have 6 balls left. You can rack them (with 15 ball in front, instead of center like 9), and play a bar game (often incorrectly called 15) with the remainder.

    Break, shoot in sequence, 15 is money ball. Shots called. This is not actually a real game, rather, for practice and utilization of all balls.

    However, there is a real game called 15 ball or 61 point, where all 15 balls are racked (#15 ball is front ball in rack), shot in number sequence, but each shot is rotated between two players. You shoot, I shoot....

    Shots called, points deducted for missed shots. ~ Can be fun and good money game, with players of comparable skill. Otherwise too slow.

    ~~~~~~~~~
    Picture of 9 ball rack, money ball in center, like in 8 ball. Not in front like 15.
    Edited to add better explanation of 61...
    I just tried the 9 ball game. Its timed and with points that have no meaning to me. lol The ball flashes so you know what one it is. Too bad. Its distracting. I could be alright with that. You break that rack center? 8 ball I brake between and second and third ball. Ask me how many 8 ball brakes Ive made. Not one. Super close but not one. A friend of mind who grew up hanging in bars with his dad. Neighborhood place that served food and all. He was seriously the best pool player Ive ever seen. It was mesmerizing watching him. Course that also could have been the vodka and his long hair and leather jacket. What was I saying? Oh yeah the best pool...Im lauging..the best pool player and he taught me that brake. You have to have a lot of power behind that brake and I come close but. Damn, Im rambling, I wonder why. lol
    I need to get some work done here.
    We need a games section here. I challenge you Smokey to the first pool game in this cafe if it ever comes!
    Maybe I read this wrong, but I do not usually break (contact the point ball) from the center of the table.
    As for making contact between 2nd and 3rd ball, I never do that. It's not allowed in 9 ball, and meaning no disrespect, I don't think it allowed in a regulated 8 ball game.
    I can't swear to that, as I rarely have played 8 ball, but the matches I seen, it would not be allowed. And honestly, I doubt it lends to a good break anyway.
    The idea is to strike the point ball, equally distributing energy to all the rack. As for power, that will come with practice. The number one thing is control of the cue ball. Attempting to hit it too hard can result in poor contact, either with the cue ball, or causing the cue ball to have poor contact with the rack (loosing energy).
    Look at this, perhaps not the most powerful break you've seen, but look how well the rack is distributed. Not to mention, he made the 9 on the break, instant win. ;)
    Just a personal tip, the power in the strike (for me), come from the wrist. It's difficult to explain, but use your wrist for power, and you'll have better control.
    I know... blah, blah, blah................ lol sorry
    I dont know a thing about regulation pool. I once played for a pool league because I was the friend of the owner of the bar and the team was short handed that day. I was an unwilling fill in. lol Im not that good but better lose a game with a person who may win then just take a loss being short handed.
    They all did not break from the front ball or whatever you call it. I brake from the left or right hand corner. Doesnt matter. I can shoot pool right or left handed. The cue is near the pocket but not sitting super close to it. About where the two end diamonds in the corner would connect in an imaginary line. Then I aim the cue ball at the second and third ball. If you dont hit it right its a scratch. If you hit it right it brakes and the cue will hit the cushion and draw the 8 ball all the way to the far corner pocket. I can get the 8 ball about to the point I had the cue to break. If I had more power it would sink on the brake that way.
    You have to hit the front ball in 8 ball as a regulation brake?
    I've never watched a match where either player broke, hitting any other ball except the point ball. But, I just read WPBA 8 ball rules, and it clearly says that it is not required to hit the point ball on the break. As long as 4 or more object balls are driven to the rail.
    Meaning... it you can strike the rack hard enough to spread it out properly, without scratching, it is legal.
    I am honestly surprised. I didn't know it was allowed. Thank you for bringing it to my attention... although I still wouldn't do it. lol
    3.3 Break Shot
    The following rules apply to the break shot:
    (a) The cue ball begins in hand behind the head string.
    (b) No ball is called, and the cue ball is not required to hit any particular object ball first.
    (c) If the breaker pockets a ball and does not foul, he continues at the table, and the table remains open. (See 3.4 Open Table / Choosing Groups.)
    (d) If no object ball is pocketed, at least four object balls must be driven to one or more rails, or the shot results in an illegal break, and the incoming player has the option of
    Good morning Shang, nice to see you.
    I sent a PM to Oldtimer three months ago, welcoming/encouraging him to visit the new cafe. Never received a reply. I did read a few post of his in other threads, but otherwise no word.
    Hope you have a nice Thursday.
