I don't see how a position against moral relativism qualifies as a "rape and murder fantasy." I don't see anywhere the man is quoted stating that he wishes or wants such to happen to anyone. What a dishonest smear. The only fantasy is that the HuffPuff blog has any credibility whatsoever as a reasonable source of any kind of knowledge or commentary.

Some free legal advice, can you found the above claim with real, clear evidence, not some LW blog conjecture? Otherwise you have met the definition of defamation/libel per se with the above, something you might want to reconsider. The crucial aspect of "per se" defamation is that no malice need be proven, a very high hurdle otherwise that usually keeps media out of hot water. Accusing someone of a heinous act or sexual perversion is a textbook form of "per se" libel in this case. The OP article or the dozens of other LW sewer pipe sources reporting on this are in similar waters. Hope they have good lawyers.

To state that someone fantasizes about doing some objectionable act would necessarily include their statement that they do, because you cannot "prove" that they do otherwise to mount a "truth defense" to defamation. Mr. Robertson has not stated anywhere I've seen that he fantasizes about raping little girls, and I have a strong hunch that his phone is ringing off the hook right now from lawyers interested in suing the entire leftosphere over this. Should be interesting if he chooses to pursue it. IMO he has a very good case.

I don't like Phil Robertson and this article proves why. However, the article doesn't mesh up to what you are saying. He created a hypothetical situation involving Atheists and came to an erroneous conclusion about all athetists, but I don't see where he is somehow fantasizing about this.

Not only that but Phil proves he is a moron about atheists and religious people because we have some people, who are religious, talking about shooting and killing gays. Phil may be smart on business but he is quite dumb when talking about atheists.

 

He has a Masters degree and was able to build a company that is worth half a billion dollars. The evidence seems to support the idea that he is more intelligent than the average PF leftist.

I like how HuffPo has a picture of him holding his finger up in the air, too. They really like their "Phil Robertson is Osama Bin Laden" meme.

 

The flawed logic is that without God, there is no morality. But that's just foolish. Phil is admitting he thinks rape is wrong only because his God says so.

 

Equating ones monetary worth with common sense and logic and is a huge fallacy. The guy s a moron...on so many levels.

 

If Osama Bin Laden wasn't a mass murderer, there would be nearly no difference between the two. They're both ignorant right wing extremists that loathe atheists, LGBT people, and women.

 

There was certainly an unnecessary level of rhetoric in the article but it is true that the quote attributed to him goes in to a fair bit of specific gory detail about the hypothetical attack on an atheist household which doesn't seem in any way relevant to the point it was purporting to make.

 

Those on the right make this character seem almost sane.

 

While he may be intelligent on running a business, have a Master's degree, yes, he is a moron when it comes to atheists. To make the claim there cannot be morals without God is idiotic.

 

It takes intelligence to get a Master's degree and build a company up from nothing to 500 million. That should be obvious. Very few can actually accomplish this.

Islam is extremely authoritarian and promotes the same values that fundamentalist christianity does. I hate Islam. The difference, however, is that I don't hate the people that practice it.

 

As an atheist, I'm continually amazed at how violent language can be coming from religions people -- Christians and Muslims included.
