Yet another Hollywood actor/moron kills himself with a drug overdose. I liked Hoffman ever since I saw him in Twister with Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt. Everything he did got better and better. I don't pretend to know him or his life outside of his movies, but holy hell, the Hollywood Sewer Factory has a death wish with narcotics and early end of life scenarios. The problems with alcohol, drugs, fast cars and STDs claim way too many of these elite, very wealthy people who, at least financially have no problems. Yet these same people are idolized by millions. IMO: We need stop idolizing these people and start understanding that their claim to fame is that they are either blessed with good looks, happened to fall into the business through a myriad of other venues or are related/connected to people who cast them. We need to start honoring people who make a real difference and not foisting praise on idiots who think they need to abuse drugs, legal or otherwise, to cope with the lifestyle, riches and fame that they have achieved. They found a needle in his arm and him dead on his apartment floor. Although the article doesn't state that it was heroin, he recently spent some time in a rehab clinic for heroin addiction. I hope you find your peace, Mr. Hoffman. http://www.foxnews.com/entertainmen...in-nyc-apartment-from-apparent-drug-overdose/
Yup! And the beat goes on..... they don't learn. They're like teenagers, they think they're invincible....... I saw "Twister" and remember that very clearly, but don't remember the actors except for Hunt. My co-workers were talking about what a 'great' movie it was, so I went and saw it. Went back to work and asked them "have any of you ever been in a tornado"? No, none had. "Well, I had when I was 15 and living in a Midwest state and that movie is stupid. When the funnel is right above your head, you're not going to stand there and argue w/your X about who's fault it was why your marriage went belly up" and mentioned several other ridiculous scenes........ But that's Hollywood for ya w/it's drug addict 'stars'....... One man I have a lot of respect for and that was Paul Newman. Great actor, nice to look at and mostly, his "Hole in the wall gang" charity where he helped the needy kids and still does w/his food chain...... Oh... and you never heard any smut about him.......
Another case of everything not being quite enough. You're right about celebs thinking they're invincible, H. Nobody wants to go out on a bathroom floor with a needle in their arm.
I guess that movie with him huffing gasoline wasn't too far off....Such a shame for this happen to a young man. Throwing it all away.
Another brilliant actor living stupidly when off camera. RIP, Mr. Hoffman. You were brilliant in Boogey Nights and even more so in Doubt.
Unfortunately, some of the greatest works of art were due to drug use/abuse. Between Music and Movies, drugs have been a constant throughout the decades and we probably wouldn't have such greatness like the Stones, or Coppolas films, without drugs. Heck, even the Best Beatles album can be almost directly attributed to LSD. The problem isn't the drugs, it's the Abuse of said drugs.
Every musical recording of Jimi Hendrix that you have ever heard, whether live or in a studio, was of him playing guitar and singing while tripping on LSD. This is not denying that the man had talent or needed drugs in order to play well, but a musician expresses what is on his or her mind and spirit through their music, just as any artist, including an actor like Phillip Hoffman, expresses what is on their minds or in their hearts through their artwork. Jimi Hendrix was definitely a little...*ahem*...out there.
That they found him with a needle in his arm says it happened VERY quickly. We won't know anything certain until the tox report comes back, but it's not unreasonable to speculate that this was caused by a "hot shot". That is a user takes a "standard" dose of a drug that is much more pure than expected. If that is the case, his death isn't because of drugs, it's a DIRECT result of the war on drugs, as legitimate companies with quality control procedures in place would not put "hot shots" into circulation.
Oh man, it's too bad. He was a very talented actor. I especially loved him in Almost Famous. Who's going to play Plutarch Havensby in Mockingjay now?
The guy was 47 with three kids and a Hollywood career. Why would you want to make excuses for him. An addict/abuser is an addict/abuser no matter whether the substance is legal or illegal. They build up a tolerance and have to do more. It isn't like legalize alcohol again has prevented people from drinking themselves to death.
Make excuses for him? I'm speculating that one reason he might be dead is because he injected himself with drugs that were 10x more pure (less diluted) than normal. While there are other reasonable speculations, IF that's what happened, it is something that would NOT happen with legit business marketing to a legal market. Pfizer has quality control. Mexican drug cartels do not. That is true. But a least an alcoholic KNOWS what he's getting when he goes to the liquor store, and can't accidentally overdose because he got something stronger than normal.
I just never cease to be amazed with liberal opinions. It wasn't the drug/addiction that killed him, it was because of a company not selling him quality controlled heroin as a direct result of the evil war on drugs.
Don't use labels with me. I am not a conservative. I am not a liberal. I am a thinking man who believes in freedom. REAL freedom. If he got a dose 10x higher than he was used to, that is exactly the case. An alcoholic doesn't have to worry about the vodka he just purchased being 10x more concentrated than he is expecting. I am not saying "drugs are good". I'm saying the side effects and unintended consequences from the war on drugs are even worse.
You cannot be fat and be a junkie. It's that simple. All longterm, surviving, heroin users are skinny.
Yeah. Heroin overdoses are sexy. He had three kids, and is shooting heroin? SELF-CENTERED (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*).
I thought he was terrific in BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU"RE DEAD. Ironically he played a heroin addict.
There seems to be a pattern. Talented young (actor, musician, athlete), grew up poor, struck it rich, had no clue how to handle money, suddenly had lots and lots of friends who wanted to party, didn't survive for very long. Much the same pattern applies to all too many of the big lottery winners. I think most of them have access to good advice, and most of them get it. And many of them ignore it.
yes of course they do, its not the guys fault who stuck the needle in his own arm, its always someone elses fault. I think the lesson we all learn here is, do drugs and live a very short life. Do heroin live a very very very short life. We call this process "natural selection".
