Was not under oath when he made that. But then again, so has McCarthy lied when he said he will call for a vote and instead just dictated it to the House Judiciary Committee.

Ok. So you are now on the record admitting that Republicans DO use impeachment for purely political reasons, and not to hold a public official accountable for their action.

I don't know if they've never used impeachment for politics (binary thinking), but they have NEVER impeached a President for no other reason than political gain. The reason has always come BEFORE talk of impeachment. Republicans, at this point, can't even say WHY they are impeaching Biden. They haven't impeached Biden. What are you even talking about? They want to start an inquiry to ask questions to see if they should start an official impeachment proceeding. There's a difference between an inquiry and impeachment. You're accusing Republicans of doing what the Democrats have done with out realizing that Republicans haven't done it yet.

Democrats impeached Trump based on no crime and hearsay. Republicans are opening an inquiry. There's a big difference. When the President has a history of meeting with corrupt foreign entities and then they start sending millions of dollars to shell companies to be laundered to his family, I think the public has the right to ask why. I have no idea why you would disagree beyond partisan politics. At this point in Trump's presidency they had forced testimony from Don Jr a few times. They haven't subpoenaed anyone in Biden's family yet despite their business partners saying they were selling access to Joe Biden and Joe Biden was "the Big Guy."

 

The commission of a crime is indeed not necessary to initiate impeachment proceedings. But something rising to the level of an impeachable offense is. Repubs have yet to provide evidence of any such offense.

 

Impeachment number one was based on hard, documentary evidence Trump extorted Zelensky. There was evidence of both abuses of power and a criminal act.
