I don't read essays. As for your "might be" I serious doubt the missile took a boomerang course back towards Poland. And what happened to the soviet missile it was chasing?

But the story isn't about US surveillance capabilities, it was about the reportage. And the reportage based their story that this was a Russian missile attack on an anonymous military source. The reporter was fired so there was some bad reporting there obviously, but we don't know if the anonymous source lied, was grossly misinformed, or was simply made up in the first place. The only people who were arguing that US military thought it was a Russian missile were the ones who wanted it to be a Russian missile, and you can scroll back to the beginning of the thread to see who they were.

An anonymous senior U.S. intelligence source. And the story was taken as fact and spread like wildfire and would still be taken as fact but for the picture of part of the ukrainian missile that was posted online. This was another "WMDs in Iraq" attempt to further escalate the conflict.

Without the photos and the Polish pushback, it's hard to know how long this train would have rolled on to getting NATO involved in this war directly.

I was responding to someone who claimed the reportage could have started WWIII. The claim was Ukraine had fired on Poland deliberately as a false flag attack intended to have Russia falsely blamed so as to drag NATO into conflict with Russia starting WWIII.

This was my response to this claim to show this makes no sense. If anyone is aware of US surveillance capabilities it is Ukraine. As this is the case, Ukraine is well aware any attempt at a false flag attack would have ZERO possibility of success. The US has the ability to determine the origin of the missile launch and even track the units who fired the missile a week or more later if they wanted to trace through the tracking data. I'm sure they've already informed Zelensky of the unit which fired the round.

As for the reportage and the journalist who was fired, I don't believe he should have been fired. The journalist isn't a military expert (nor is Biden obviously). The reporter merely reported what Biden said in a public announcement shortly after the incident, before anyone had a chance to investigate completely what had occurred. Biden stated, "The missile which struck Poland was Russian-made". This was very misleading in my opinion. I understood immediately this didn't necessarily mean Russia fired the missile, since Ukraine routinely fires Russian-made missiles. My first impression was the statement didn't mean what others might think and was quite misleading. It gave the impression Russia had fired on Poland. And the media being ignorant of the meaning took off and ran with what it implied.

The next day the Pentagon clarified the missile was an S-300. To me this meant it was VERY likely launched by Ukraine to intercept an incoming missile, since intercepting incoming airborne systems is the primary purpose of the S-300. Russia has no use for this role of the S-300 because Russia is pretty much the only one launching airborne attacks on civilian cities. The S-300 can be fired in a ground-to-ground mode, but it is expensive and highly ineffective and inaccurate in this role. So, in all likelihood this meant it was fired by Ukraine, but I still withheld judgement as did NATO and the US until they could investigate the tracking data. The media kept running with the story hyping up the incident as a Russian attack and the possible expansion of the war to include NATO. Neither I nor NATO jumped to such conclusions. NATO continued to investigate at the same time it began ramping up the attack plan. Ramping up the attack plan in no way brings us closer to war. At some point in the process after the investigation is complete, a decision is made as to the appropriate response. If it was determined to be a Russian attack then yes it would have meant a swift and devastating attack on Russia by NATO. In this case the investigation clearly showed what happened. Russia fired on civilian targets in a city. One of the two missiles launched to intercept the incoming missile turned towards the incoming missile to intercept in a manner which placed its trajectory towards Poland. When it failed to get within proximity and lost lock failing to intercept it continued on and ended up landing where it did. There was little chance of causing WWIII if, as it where, the missile wasn't fired by Russia. Once we knew for certain it was fired by Ukraine, NATO forces stood down.

It wouldn't have caused WWIII even if it had been intentionally fired by Russia on Poland. Understand, Russia is not a superpower. Neither is China. Russia does not have the ability to even defeat Ukraine. Let alone any single NATO member state I can think of save perhaps a few of the Baltic states. A combined attack on Russia by all NATO forces would hardly be WWIII even if all of Russia's supposed allies (e.g., China) joined in to assist Russia. Russia is nowhere close to being a superpower.

Iraqi WMD's are a completely separate matter and bares no resemblance to the collateral damage in Poland.

This was already predicted and the process was already predetermined. As soon as it occurred the predetermined response began unfolding. Part of that process includes the conclusion of the investigation prior to the decision as to how to respond. So we know EXACTLY how far the train would have rolled given the reality of the origin of the missile strike.

Oh it's exactly the same. One fake was caught, one was not. You keep assuming the US would have outed the ukies if the missile pics weren't made public. That is something you shouldn't assume. Maybe one day you'll understand the MIC grift and how the shitbags in the swamp work.

How does that in ANY WAY resemble WMD's in Iraq? Are you in any way familiar with what occurred regarding Iraqi WMDs?

Anonymous Sources are a standard tool in the propagandist's toolbox. Anonymous Sources used by MSM have been molding the public perception in favor of war for many decades, but it is much more apparent these days.

Poland never accused Russia of firing a missile into its territory.

    This thread title remains misinformation.

Yeah, they didn't exist. They didn't exist and that :icon_shithappens: head Colin Powell knew they didn't exist but kept the lie public (that Iraq had WMDs) so as to have an excuse to go to war and enrich himself as well as other vile human beings connected to the MIC. Another US "intelligence" lie, just not caught.

Again, you are talking about something totally different; the actual NATO response. I've been referring to the publics howls for war and their influence on public opinion.

Well you responded to my post so I responded as if...you responded to my post.

The journalist wasn't responding to Biden's remarks, he was referring to his "anonymous military" source, who told him that the missile was Russian, or at least that's how he reported it. The source could have simply said it was Russian made and the journalist ran with it, but in any case he definitely should have been fired.

On the other hand, I do agree that Russia is not a superpower; it's more of a regional power with nukes, so we still have to take it seriously, but it's reach and influence isn't the same as that of the Soviet Union.

As soon as I see a source marked as "anonymous" than I assume the entire story is simply to push some sort of agenda and disregard it as something serious. As you can see by this thread however, not everyone feels that way.

Putin also says they aren't a superpower and they don't want to be one either. The real superpower if there is one is China. The U.S. is just in denial at this point.

Agreed. The US is a has been power just waiting for it's Suez moment to drive that point home with the American public. For many people however, it's still 1992.
