If you'd had the opportunity to discuss hot-topic issues of the day on an internet forum set up by your high school teacher as part of the course, how would you have felt about the experience? Were you a student who was comfortable speaking in a class of 30-35 students when in a discussion situation, or did you prefer to sit in the back and observe (or pick your nose)? Did you want to contribute but were concerned about what others would think?

I may have the opportunity to win a grant that would provide me with a classroom set of computers, and I'm considering using Moodle and its discussion board features to set up weekly discussions based on both non-fiction and fiction readings that we encounter in my class. Many of them will have political implications, hence the post on this board. In your opinion, would this have been a valuable learning experience/tool for you or not?
