http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/29/opinions/harvey-relief-funds-opinion-israel/index.html Some interesting thoughts. I presume those 20 representatives and Ted Cruz will of course refuse any and all federal assistance for the great state of Texas because they believe firmly and resolutely in their ideals...Should they? When disaster strikes should politicians put their money where their mouths were when it wasn't happening in their districts?
They voted against it because of all the unrelated pork the Dems atrociously tried to stuff in the "disaster relief bill."
Which isn't true in either account. They voted against it because the increased spending in the final passed legislation wasn't offset by cuts elsewhere in the budget and most of the spending was related to Sandy
I didn't support any of your post. You said it was unrelated pork. Some of it was used for other disaster declarations. There was about $70M for NOAA aircraft upgrades and improved weather forecasting to assist in future disasters, but again, it was a disaster appropriation, not a "Just the worst hit area of Sandy" Bill. That storm wreaked havoc from the virgin islands all the way up the east coast. There was a large chunk allocated to pollution and water grants to the tune of about $600M but it isn't clear how much of that would be related to Sandy/natural disaster or not. https://fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/R42869.pdf
What was this pork you speak of? And even if the bill contained it, that's not necessarily a good reason to oppose it. It's a valid reason, but not a good one. There's a difference.
