I was just wondering what everyones thoughts are on this. What political party (if any) is the majority of population in prison? Are there any facts out there on this? Why do you feel the way you do about your response?

Most people in prison are probably apolitical. Since most of society generally fits into this category. But having said that, everybody still holds some kind of political views even if they do not vote. And the majority of the people behind bars are probably what Andrew Breitbart would have referred to as default cultural liberals. In other words, people who don't really question much or work to form many of their own opinions about the world and just kind of soak up the attitudes of the culture around them which is largely shaped by the media, television, music, movies, pop culture, peer groups, etc.

I'm pretty sure that folks in prison could careless about mainstream politics. Prison politics on the other hand is a big deal, since our prisons are racially divided, and groups struggle for control gambling, the flow of contraband, and the drug trade behind the walls.

With that being said should they lose their right to vote at any point? As in after 3 felony charges? Or something like that?

I'm a advocate once you've done your time, you should get your rights back. But there is a process where felons can eventually get their rights back, after a length of time.

    Why start there?

I am more concerned about your knowledge of politics and what you are voting on. You know?

So i would not necessarily be opposed to restricting felons from voting but they wouldnt be my first priority.

There are far more ignorant people damaging this country with their foolish votes than there are felons.

Making the assumption that a majority of prisoners come from poverty, combined with the fact that Democrats win the lowest income quintiles by huge margins, I think it is safe to say that a large majority of prisoners, if they vote at all, would vote Democrat.

That describes the entire world population. Nobody is born with political views, everyone is shaped by those things you describe plus you could add life experiences. I am always more impressed by anyone who changes their view from one side to the other when they get older once they are out of the influence of their parents.

Unless your crime is related to voting fraud, I don't see why you should remain unable to vote after serving your time.

What is the politics of a robber armed with a firearm? surely he is pro-gun.
how about a rapist? surely he believes his rapes are "God's will."
Or a drug smuggler/dealer? He must be pro business and consider drug laws anti free market.
The car thief is just a businessman trying to make a profit.
The embezzlers, frauds, and similar crimes are just small businessmen trying to make a profit.

I'd say, overall, the attitudes of the incarcerated, as demonstrated by their actions, are very "conservative."

A prison-based gang was linked to a series of recent murders in Texas and the prison environment generally fosters right-wing extremism. It's known that Islamists are recruiting new followers in prisons and prisoners are under pressure to convert to Islam to get protection from powerful Islamic gangs in jails.

    Hate?

    I think not.

I merely took the actions of the incarcerated and converted them into political ideology.

I can understand why the accuracy of the comparisons would be disturbing.

One would hope you would take those disturbing thought to heart and reflect on your ideology.

On the other hand, conservatives tend to be less forgiving when it comes to law breakers than their liberal counter parts. Don't you think that would factor in, just a bit?

Breaking down the prison population into the political spectrum is an exrcise in pointlessness in the first place.

Interesting. So then why do they all engage in gay sex once they're locked up? That's certainly not very conservative, wouldn't you agree?

People commit crimes because they think "liberals" will be less punitive?

    THAT'S YOUR THESIS?

    REALLY?

Still, I agree with your second point but I thought I'd yank a few conservative chains just for the fun of it.

Don't know. Haven't been in prison except as a visitor.

Perhaps you have more experience in the subject and call illuminate us?

I think you need to reread what I said, because I never insinuated that people commit crimes because liberals will take it easy on them compared to conservatives.

I was talking about after the fact, while conservatives tend to have less sympathy towards people who commit crimes, than liberals do. Conservatives blabber on about personal responsibility, compared to liberals who tend to factor in social and economic factors.

Then perhaps you should reread the title of the thread and the original proposition.

"On the other hand, conservatives tend to be less forgiving when it comes to law breakers than their liberal counter parts. Don't you think that would factor in, just a bit?"
Seems that you're saying that criminals consider do, or should consider political considerations before committing crime. I say they do not and that their crimes are based on the purely "conservative" motive of greed and self saTISFACTION.

No, I don't have any more experience there than you do. But surely prison doesn't turn straight people gay. That would make homosexuality a choice. So doesn't it make more sense that these people are all liberals?

Afterall, if we're going to be silly here for the sake of trolling, I can just as easily reframe every crime you just mentioned to reflect a liberal belief.

Clearly you live in partisan land, and there is no need to further discuss this with you. Because, I could respond with something stupid, like no one in prison thinks they should face the punishments that they're doing now, because much like liberals, they don't believe in personal responsibility.

See, we can keep this circle jerk going all night.

As I said. I don't know about being gay in prison. It does seem to be a subject that has your attention though.

Still, people are not in prison because they exhibit homosexual behavior in prison. They are in prison because of their behaviors before they went to prison. Which goes back to my original post whose premise is again demonstrated 100% accurate.

    Oh, and the troll line?

Take it up with the OP. Always uncomfortable when someone shoves your strawman right up your "glutteous buttholeous" ain't it?

See the comment above about where you will find your strawman.

Start a completely partisan thread with a strawman and then complain about partisanship when a higher intelligence slaps you down. THAT's "conservative."

And you're way off on your comment. People in prison think they don't deserve to be punished because they've "apologized if they offended anyone." that makes it all better in "conservativeland."
