Not the case in American private schools. American private schools usually have higher standards than American public schools. They can do it--they usually have better students from better parents than private schools.

Stossel is awesome. I'm surprised that ABC would allow such a pro-free market, anti-throw-more-money-at-the-problem piece.

Funny. I could say the same about the left's knowledge of economics.

    Quit trolling.

No possible way to take the power away from the public empolyee unions of the States' education system. they are too big to fail.

Also, you can't make the education system work harder than they want. Because they work to make work easy. That is a imbred philosophy/idology that will never change.

Also, the cost of the public schools are so high, that you will not pry any tax money away from them. They have great benifits that they will never give up.

And the beurocracy is so huge, you will never get them to account for their failures or the money they spend.

If you can change all of this, than you can change the direction of the USA. But I don't see that ever happening.

Because when people have more power over you, and they are set in their ways, you will never change behavior or idology.

Proof that the U.S. doesn't spend more per student than most other countries?

Current state is massive failure. Massive on epic proportions. No money to pay for it, and no amount of money will fix the failure of US Public schools.

Other countries have taken note of the USA's public school problems, and those countries have fixed the problems and they are now pass the USA by a large margin.

If you live in the USA and want your kid to get ahead in life, send them to private school like all the other successfull parents. Or send your kids abroad to one of the many successfull public schools outside the USA. There, they will learn the real history of the USA, Culture, two or three languages, and they will be more worldly than any US student when they go on to college.

That is the solution to great education. Avoid public schools at all cost if you realy love and care for your kids..
