New evidence has surfaced that pregnancy doubles the risk of getting hospitalized for Covid-19 and increases by 70% the odds of dying from it. So it is advisable for pregnant women to get vaccinated.

    Interesting. Vaccination would be prudent.

Well, I hope pregnant woman are being advised to keep their albumin, zinc and vitamin D levels up as well. I’ll bet dollars to doughnuts low serum levels of these three are predictive of poor outcomes in pregnant women. We know all three predict poor outcomes in all demographics and we know pregnant women are often deficient in all three especially in the third trimester.

I’d bet another doughnut low serum levels of all three would predict breakthrough infection rates and poor outcomes in vaccinated pregnant women as well.

Bad news! This is H1N1 all over again. One of our hospitals though had good success with semi-recumbent lateral positioning with a specially crafted wedge pillow. They also learnt early to have a plan for early Caesarian. Didn’t have that many women with H1N1 but they also did not lose a mother or baby. Since that unit specialises in Maternity ICU they continued to use those pillows for other cases
