Do you have a mismatched view on Roe/abortion?

    Hi

I find myself on an odd side of the issue.

On the one hand, I respect the views of pro-life people, I do not think they are, in the main, badly intentioned. But I respectfully disagree with them.

Indeed, I am to the left of most of the left wing posters on this issue. I support legal and available abortion from conception to labor (but not after).

This said, I find Roe v Wade's jurisprudiential reasoning to be highly dubious. I do not agree with their finding of a right to privacy in the 14th amendment, and neither do they given how monumentally any right to privacy has been trashed by dragnet surviellance.

It is a bad decision. The worst kind of bad - legally bad. The result guided the reasoning instead of the other way around.

But I support abortion. How can I reconcile these views? Is there some alternative to Roe that could achieve the same result? A new amendment perhaps?

It seems suspicious to me that 99% of those who support abortion support the legal reasoning of Roe, and vice versa for the pro-lifers. Surely what you think about abortion should have no bearing on whether there is in fact a right to privacy in the 14th amendment?

Maybe this suggests both sides have their result and are willing to fit the reasoning to that desire.

    What do you think?
