As the recent events in Ferguson, MO have shown, there is a deep divide in the US about criminality in America. I would like to start this thread to explore what is actually going on in terms of violence involving blacks and whites. Please make arguments involving actual statistics, I think there is a disconnect in terms of who is actually committing the murders, and who the actual victims are when the murders and assaults are interracial.
If we want to talk about a divide, let's talk about the title of this thread. It's black culture and progressive culture. What does that even mean? What is Progressive culture? It doesn't make any sense. At this point, a divide has already been made. By saying Progressive culture, it seperates it from American culture, and with Black culture in the title too, it makes them seem like they're the same thing. That then leaves it open to the right just making wild accusations against the left. Now, I think you are interested in having a civil conversation. So why is it that Americans seem to have a divide in our society? If I had to take a guess, the idea that it takes a village to raise a child is a very odd idea in the American psyche. We have a much more individualistic nature to our culture, so when it comes to trusting someone else when they believe something, that sense of community is hard to make.
There is a progressive culture and a black culture. There is also a media culture. They each have their own reputation. If you don't know what they are then you need to check out a wide range of news outlets and a diverse group of social commentators to get up to speed.
There is no real significant divide about criminality in America, among We the People, as a general group. We expect there to be a penalty for breaking the laws. There does seem to be a divide on just how much force should be used to prevent criminality, to detain a suspect, and whether sentences given as penality, are out of proportion to the crime. This divide goes all the way to the US Congress and is evident in the way that politicians and VIPs tend to get only marginal penalty for violating major laws, while average citizens get severe time in prison, and even shot to death, for very minor offences.
