Property should be owned by the government and used to replace the income tax.

If the government rented out 200M homes at just $600 a month, the government would make 120B a month or 2.4T a year. You would be guarenteed a house to live in, wouldn't have to pay any additional federal tax, no local property tax, else federal, and after $7.2K the rest of your yearly check is yours.

No one making under 400K would need to pay a cent in income tax.

Its much better than the absurd 30% sales tax.

So where does the government get the money to buy/build the houses?

In one word, no. That will create far more problems than I think you realize. At least for the whole of the US that is.

Emanate domain and putting in the bill that the supreme court does not have jurisdiction over this legislation. (read article 3)

The thoughts of a 25 year old who wants to spend your money... ""You would be guaranteed a house to live in""... just not the one you choose or where you choose.. why is ""$600 a month"" such a deal?

Can you imagine what you would get for 600 bucks a month?

And who's going to take care of the maintenance? The government? That would be FUBAR.

    That’s a great Marxist solution.

    - Who determines what kind of house you get?

    - Do you think the government would be a great landlord who would keep up the property?

    - How would the state and local governments be funded because a significant source of their revenue is the local property tax?

    - How does the government acquire the property? Will it pay the owners or confiscate it?

    - Will the renters have any rights to seek relief from government policies?

Attempting such would certainly bring this ludicrous diversion into the Leftist Utopia to a speedy conclusion.

Townhome/apartment's style like in the Netherlands. You get it based on need, for your family.
Yes the agnecy responsible for it would do better than price gouging private landlords.
Sales tax and income tax. People would be keeping 50% to 75% automatically depending on what the state minumum wage is, (rent is a tax) the state can tax how they see fit and actually fund their governments unlike now where most states are broke.
Confiscate it, demolish suburbia and use Dutch style communities.
You will have the same freedoms from government inside your home as before.

Perhaps the homelessness and unaffordability of housing in the Anglosphere (US/UK/AU/NZ/CA) would make such policies more palatable.

I can comferably say I have a better job than you. Government job with pension and healthcare and free childcare plus about 6 weeks paid off plus holidays year 1, starting 50K salary yearly raises plus inflation pay and retire in 20 years.

Eminent domain requires the government to pay fair market value for the property they confiscate. You aren't suggesting eminent domain. You are suggesting theft.

I understand your concerns [as do most] but attempting to remediate the effects of an ingrown toenail with a machete is going to leave you with a mess on your hands.

The problem is rarely if ever not enough government. A MUCH better solution would be in allowing the market to work on the one hand and having institutions actually able to help the helpless, on the other. Unless you are willing to lock up a certain portion of the population, you will always have some folks who simply can't get it together no matter what.

As you mature you will abandon your interest in socialism. That is a good thing because it has never worked anywhere ever.

Most of Europe is hybrid socialist/Capitalist. High population density doesn't allow for free market like the vast space of the US. Necessity to manage space and resources forced them to move away from capitalism.

As I said, as you mature you will abandon your fascination with socialism. There is no socialism in Europe any more than there is in the U.S. You need to go to places like Cuba and North Korea to find socialist systems. The Europeans, just like us, are capitalist countries with a penchant for social spending.

Socialism is public ownership, do you think countries like the Netherlands would be able to fit 17M people into an area smaller than West Virginia and reclaim so much land while preventing it from sinking?

You don't understand how much government planning goes into fitting 90M people into the state of Montana (Germany) or 17M in WV (Netherlands) or 9M people in Maine (Austria). You have to plan out where housing will be built, how big the houses are, where schools and businesses are built, how to make transportation doable. You have to preserve resources, you can't just let companes dig up everything and sell them off. Farmland has to be used correctly so that you aren't taking up too much space.

Literally free marker capitalism is only sustainable in massive countries like the US and Canada.

Ah, yes, I can't wait to be forced to live in a rat-infested garbage dump where you wait years to get anything fixed.
