Prostitution vs Porn

Why is it so often illegal to have sex for money, but legal to have sex for money if you film it and sell the video? A bit of a headscratcher, yeah?

The answer according to the courts is that the latter is a form of expression, and you have the freedom of expression. Do you buy that?

 

The only difference making it legal will do is instead of them saying the $$$ is for their TIME, they'll say its for sexual SERVICES.
The only downside I see to making it legal is they will make way less money and IMO, if a woman is putting their body at such risk to get with nasty strangers, they SHOULD get paid lots of $$$$ for that.

 

When its legal you can also regulate it, attempting to clamp down on STDs (require regular testing), human trafficing, abusive pimps, etc. They can get it out of secret locations away from law enforcement and have decent security. They can even form a union.

 

The only reason we have laws against prostitution in various jurisdictions is that we have this sexual hangup based upon our pernicious Judeo-Christian Heritage. We pass civil laws to support religious dogma, primarily the drinking of alcohol and prostitution and abortion.

What two consenting adults do in the exchange of services and money if they do it upon their own free will should not be illegal.

Government should not be in the business of mandating morality.

 

Porn should be illegal to sell or show without verification of age.

It's not speech when it's nudity done for entertainment and commodity purposes.


With porn there is niether an opinion being made or expressed. It's more equivalent to selling a drug.

 

Prostitution is often out of desperation, not "free will".

Another angle of the government involvement issue is that it's pretty clear we have no definition of what is pornographic.

Today we have idiots crawling through libraries trying to find books to remove.

 

School libraries for children. And that's always been the standard to go through the library and remove inappropriate material.

 

It's only illegal until the marriage, then the sex for money is blessed by the authorities.

 

Unless they are kinapped, I'm not buying that. Prostitution gives one additional option to such people to make money. They still have whatever other opportunities that exist without that option. And taking that option away doesn't help them either. Providing more support for the poor and desperate would.

 

I personally believe that if party A wants to offer sex for x amount of dollars, and party B wants to pay party A that amount in exchange for sex, assuming that these are consenting adults, that is a legal offer and acceptance. I fail to see why this should be a problem in any way.

 

Couldnt we say that about virtually all work?

I personally have zero desire to work, but since I need money to live, I do so begrudgingly. Prostitutes do it for the same reason. They need money.

 

If 2 adults want to have sex for money, I don't see a reason for government interference.

The only difference between a politician and a prostitute, the prostitute will stop screwing you when you run out of money.

No young girl grows up saying that she wants to be a prostitute. It's the end of a tragedy.

I am a live-and-let-live type of person.

Life happens. Choices are made. Everyone has a choice to do whatever they wish for work as long as it is legal. If a woman (or man) decides she (he) would rather earn $100 for 10 minutes of work giving oral s*x, as opposed to working a regular job for 10 hours for the same amount of money, that is their choice.

 

Be patient. It'll probably grow in time.

Way back in the day it was a deterrent to rape.. Where a guy on a horse got two bucks has always been a mystery to me..

 

I think it's only permitted because there is an assumption porn stars have sex with a (relatively) smaller number and circle of people than a prostitute.

And also a prostitute could have sex with "ordinary men", whereas a pornstar is assumed to only have sex with other pornstars, which is a smaller circle that society sort of assumes are the tiny minority "degenerates" of society and are going to have lots of promiscuous sex anyway (whether that is entirely true or not).

The legal distinction is that pornstars are paid by persons who are not the persons actually having sex with person they are hiring.
However, it's also well known this is sometimes abused, with some porn producers using it is legal cover to pay others to have sex with them.
