Why Ireland was the only country of the Northern Europe which rejected absolutely and pernanently Protestantism ?

Among other non exhaustiv reasons one can put forward these:

1°)Irish society was not a politically unified bloc and culturally advanced .

2°)The Catholic faith was not a state religion since the state did not exist ,for the sovereign of state could decide overnight to change religion.

3°)Irish were conservatives and simple minds and preferred the statu-quo ante.

4°)There were no abuses in the part of Catholic Church as they were perceived in England or Germany to justify the need for reformation.

5°)Monasteries, convents and abbayies were the only places of life and socialization worthy of the name and was part of village life since St Patrick.

6°)Ireland was under British rule and reformers originated from England Irish were rejecting all things British.

    ________________________________________________

N.B In 1991 only 3% of Republic Of Ireland population were protestants.

I have no clue about the first 5, but 6 is wrong.

Henry VIII, the fat, megabonking king of England, liked to have as much sex as he could.
Basically, he married a bunch of women but, as he wanted fresh totty, divorced them or, when the serving pope demanded too big a bribe, chopped their heads off instead.
This really miffed the pope dude and Henry wasn't exactly happy with the holy see (Henry may have called him the holy C - An abbreviation for something Henry was very fond of on a woman but the forum word filter would star out)
    Let me test that "(*)(*)(*)(*)"
Anyway, Henry decided to remove the pope dude from the deal, declared himself, defender of the faith, and had a reformation (Tried to kill as many Catholics as he could).
Anyway, his circumference, King Henry, snuffed it and there was a power struggle between Mary (Catholic) and Lizzie I (protestant).
The virgin queen (I think she was called that because she was clearly verging on the totally mad), won the day so she was really bugged at Catholics in general, this may have had a lot to do with her sis trying to kill her
    .
A load of Catholics on bonfires preceded a Tudor invasion of the emerald isle, followed by imposition of English law, culture and religion.
That, as you might imagine, was a little annoying for the poor old Irish because they really went in for the pope as a spiritual leader.
In 1919, a terrorist group started to attack the rightful British forces, claiming they were an occupying army and started shooting at troops.
The British (For this was well after the act of union so England, at least as far as politics were concerned, became Britain), were really angry, put down their cups of tea and shot back, trying to kill as many Catholics as they could. It didn't much matter if they people were terrorists or not, the British forces liked to kill as many as they could, just in case they were terrorists. Queen Lizzie would have loved it.
The black and tans dropped the ball so, by the end of 1921, Ireland became a country again (sans the top bit)

That pretty much put Ireland right of the church of England's map.

So there you have it folks, total proof that Ireland doesn't like the Protestant version of that religion because of a fat bonker and his bonkers daughter.
There is another interesting note or few from this post:
I must be mad to write this demi book of a post because hardly anyone will ever read it
My history teachers didn't totally waste their time with me because I did the whole load of crap without wiki
My sense of humour is rubbish
    perhaps I'm not totally thick
I'm incrediby handsome but my typing is crap and I'm too lazy to go back and correct it.

Ireland and Roman Catholicism began a love affair in the time of Patrick in the fifth century. Ireland was for a time the last healthy outpost of western civilization when the lights went out in the Western Roman Empire.

It wasn't until the time of Cromwell in Britain that Catholicism became a rallying point for Irish nationalism. Two generations later Catholicism and Irish nationalism were fused after the Battle of the Boyne.

There were famous Irish nationalists who were Protestants like Parnell, but Irish nationalism is Green through and through today and always.

A mass demonstration in Belfast today condemned the rabble on both sides, and their violence. The silent majority want their peaceful city back.

Northern Ireland flag protests signal wider problems
Mon, Jan 14, 2013 - The flag protests in Northern Ireland have exposed the deep sense of alienation felt by the staunchly pro-British Loyalist community, as the benefits of the peace process seemingly pass them by.
