Please read my short statement before you vote. My name is Arjan Dokelaar and I am from the Netherlands where I run a blog about psychiatry. I am not religious, member of a cult/Scientology and I do not have professional, political or commercial interest in psychiatry existing or not. I have based my statement solely on my interest in the future of mankind as being a fellow human. I am very interested to learn about critics and arguments to invalidate my statement. I hope proponents of psychiatry can skip attacks on me as a person and provide solid arguments to show why the arguments in my statement are wrong. Arguments Psychiatry is a malpractice that is based on the absurd idea that life is coincidence and should be terminated in the light of human values. Psychiatry exploits the same potential that lies at the basis of God-religions: the human inability to define the meaning of life, however, with the pretense that life has no meaning and that human emotions and behavior (the human mind) is a result of chemical processes in the brains. With simple logic the foundation of psychiatry can be invalidated. The physical simply cannot form the basis of itself. You cannot stand above life as being life because when you try to so you work in the wrong direction resulting in a figurative stone that sinks into the ocean of time. Fixed state brain treatment or a medical approach to the human mind is nonsensical and logically leads to an escalation of the problems. The power to decide what is good and bad in the field of the human mind should be democratic. Children Children who behave hyperactive or unruly are being told that they have an incurable brain disease and that they need powerful brain treatment with ADHD medications. The number of prescriptions for ADHD drugs in The Netherlands rises despite fierce criticism, including from the House of Representatives [1]. In 2011, more than 1.1 million parcels ADHD medications were prescribed to children, an increase of 22% compared to 2010 [2]. There is no physical evidence that the disease is present in a child. When you ask a psychiatrist in what hospital in the Netherlands the disease can be detected with a brain scan, he will tell you that it is impossible. ADHD drugs appear to cause psychosis and aggression [3], leading to poor school performance [4], and can cause many other serious side effects, sometimes with fatal outcome [5]. The number of prescriptions of antipsychotics to children is also growing explosively. In 2010 the number of prescriptions of antipsychotics to children increased by 49%. [6] In Belgium controversy arose recently when a professor debunked that some Belgian psychiatrists were changing the diagnosis ADHD into bipolar disorder to be able to prescribe antipsychotics because of the growing criticism of ADHD medication. [7] There is also the fact that several scholars call that psychiatry is committing fraud and that the disease ADHD is deception. [8] [9] Some professors say children are being taught a brain disease religion while in reality there is nothing wrong with their brains. [10] A recent Dutch study published in The Lancet showed that 78% of children diagnosed with ADHD can be redeemed of the diagnosis with a cheap to reproduce diet [11][14]. This shows that there is evidence that with some children there is probably nothing wrong with their brains while the assumpton is awakened with them that it is the case and they are prescribed drug treatment against it. 1 child Even if it would be just 1 child who receives powerful brain treatment while there is nothing wrong with his or her brains. If we care about the future of a child we must do everything we can to prevent it. New Rule By introducing a new rule that requires doctors to provide physical evidence for the presence of a disease before they may treat it, esspecially when it comes to the brains of a child which is still developing, malpractice can be prevented. The Dutch Health Minister Edith Schippers said last year that she believes that psychiatric diagnoses are not real diseases. [12][14] The reaction of psychiatry was a public plaintive plea several months later in which they argued that the policy of the Minister puts society back to the 17th century when the mind and body were seen as separate entities. [13] This shows how weak psychiatry is and that their strongest defense against the argument that the scientific foundation of psychiatry is faulty, is a plaintive prayer.
