Public Science Represenative Out of Touch

Across the Western world science that conflicts with ideological or religious beliefs is seeing increasing resistance. Whether climate change or the inheritable nature of intelligence, there are people ready to throw rationality under the bus to serve their own egos or beliefs.

Many people blame cultural movements.
I think in large part the blame lies with scientific representatives created by the media.
I don't know how anyone could watch this video without finding it repellent.



On what's framed as a kid-friendly show, no less.
In an age of skepticism this is the furthest from how scientists should portray themselves.
The conflation of subjective values with "science" is damaging the credibility of the scientific community as it related to the public.

this is Bill Nye's real TV show, yes.

 

I understand what they are doing but it is uncomfortable to watch. It is important to understand that this isn't a show for kids. It addresses only adult topics.

Nerds are a bunch of nerds. What a surprise!

Here is what I see. Sexual repression has screwed up a lot of lives. They are trying to send the message that it is normal and just a part of life to be sexual. And not everyone likes the same things.

That IS an important message. People have always been kinky but only now are we growing the balls as a society to admit it. And as always, scientists are helping to blaze the trails.

Scientists have always played a role in raising social consciousness, based on the science of our time.

 

People who are sophisticated enough to understand the point will get it. Those who aren't, won't.

 

Unlike sexual promiscuity, which never hurt anyone or ruined anyone's lives...
Ignore the HIV/AIDs epidemic and the divorce rate.

 

If gender is a social construct then how you choose as a society define that social construct has little to do with science.

 

That has nothing to do with anything they or I said.

 

So only people who are promiscuous are comfortable with their sexuality. Is that really how you see sex?

On the most part, yeah. I'm on a college campus. I'm pretty familiar with tons of people "comfortable with their sexuality".

lmao the rise in STDs in the US has nothing to do with the sexual revolution, no sir, it's all a big coincidence.

 

you claimed the social program they are pushing is based off of "the science of our time".

 

No doubt, this is not any kind of legitimate scientific claim. SJWs know their claims are so weak they have to constantly try to blend them into science.

...and if people think kids don't see shows like this, those people need to avoid wandering out into traffic.
