Racism continues unabatedly to show its ugly side in the U.S. and in this example, it cannot be debated.

I am a great fan of music and gifted singers and therefore I have watched programs such as The Voice and America has Talent for years. In the Voice they have one judge (Blake Shelton) that is a country music icon and that has brought a large amount of country music fans to the show. Blake Shelton is NOT racist but his viewers (country folk) seem to be.

Blake Shelton has won 9 times, Kelly Clarkson 4 times, Adam Levine 3 times and Pharrell Williams once. The first 3 are White Judges and Pharrell Williams is a black judge but he won the show with a White Singer.

Evidently, the popularity of the judges makes a big difference and Black Shelton is a highly likable individual in the Country Music genre and it is evident that many people who are NOT racist will pick his choices over others. Nonetheless, in the last few years, racism seems to have reared its ugly head. There has not been a Black or Brown winner of The Voice since 2015 and over the past 3 years, there have been some highly talented Black or Brown singers that not only did not win but did not even get into the top 3 finalists.

This year has to be the worst as far as racism is concerned. In my personal opinion, the 3 best singers in the competition were 2 Blacks and 1 Brown and they did not even make it into the top 5. All of Blake's choices were there but again, in my opinion, there was only 1 of them that should have been among the top 5.

This opinion of mine is shared among many (see below). In addition, I am married to a once very successful singer that has produced 50 cd's in her life and she is highly knowledgeable about singers and she too, said that this year was a travesty.

'The Voice' Voters Branded Racist By Fans as Season 22 Finalists Announced

NBC’s, ‘The Voice’ (and America) have a race problem

This year there were two Black people that should have been in the finals. This first one was a member of the John Legend group and he compared her on several occasions to Whitney Houston.

and here was my own and my wife's favorite:

They did not even make the top 5. This is who won the show:

This show is called "THE VOICE" and yet the best "VOICE" did not win. It was the White man with the most popular White judge behind him that won. This has been the same case almost each and every year for the past 7 years. Racism and popularity once again takes top place.

Black guys win every basketball slam dunk competition ever staged. What's wrong with a white boy winning a TV singing competition?

And your opinion is your opinion and no more worthy than anyone else and to brand someone a racist based on their taste being different from yours is pretty insulting.

First of all, it is not only my opinion but the opinion of many that the show has attracted racism to it. Second of all, there are "established guidelines" as to who is a better singer than someone else. A show that is called The Voice, should be judged based on voice guidelines and not on who is your personal favorite.

It really is that simple. It has been evident now for quite a few years that the winners of the voice are White and with White Judges. You cannot deny that fact.

It so happens that Blacks are very good (normally better) at slam dunking basketballs and that is why they win! They have to prove their ability by beating others at slam dunking. In this case, the best voices have not won for the past 7 years based on the color of their skin and not on their talent.

You are talking about a show where the audience chooses the winner as opposed to professionals making that determination. Such an arrangement is going to come down to the demographics of those that are going to call in and vote and what is it that they prefer as opposed to sheer talent. I can imagine that it is probably a bunch of 13 year old girls calling in to vote, and for certain you will find very few self-respecting adults that would waste their time actually voting in a singing competition.

Amongst the 13-year-old girl set, I can think of a lot of things that might drive their vote, and racism is probably at the bottom of that list. One thing is for sure, if country artists keep winning as you assert, I think it is probably a safe assumption that the demographics of the voters likely favors country music. To assume that is due to racism rather than an affinity for country music is a gigantic leap in logic that is NOT inherent in the fact pattern presented.

Race hustlers gonna hustle race. Lather, rinse, repeat.

What about recent US presidential elections? Would you have preferred Kamala Harris as the presidential candidate and Biden as VP based on skin color? She's not even that dark to be honest.

How is the winner chosen? Do the judges make the call or is there a voting mechanism? Maybe Shelton is just a good judge of what the public wants.

Do Progressives actually believe that racism is "pervasive", or do they just want to believe that, to be able to have a reason to keep "fighting". (Because at this point, what else do Progressives have to fight for? Seems like ALL the low hanging fruits have been taken, and the economic problems that exist in society are not so easy to solve)

Oh, by the way, it's super difficult to argue that black people are racially discriminated in the music world. If anything, they are overrepresented there. All the more so when you consider where the consumer spending money on music comes from. It would be like trying to claim black people face racial barriers in basketball or football. It seems to come across as rather absurd on the face of it.

The entertainment industry can be a tough field to make it in. The majority of white people who try are not able to make a good paying career out of it.
Of course I never like to discourage anyone's dreams.

Maybe the sense of entitlement has gone too far. "I deserve to be a music super star, and if I cannot, it must be because of racism"

Black people are free to form their own music awards show.

Is the problem that the major TV networks are holding some sort of monopoly?
Maybe they just have to do a better job getting the word out, because technology and things are changing. With internet direct to TV shows, there is more variety than ever and it's hard for the big companies to hold any monopoly.

And I'm sure the opinion of many it has not and the correct people won and blacks blaming racism for their own failure is the norm anymore.

Well since blacks are only 14% of the population winning anymore than 1.4 times out of ten would be a desperate outcome and that would prove black racism and whites not winning enough.

This thread about supposed racism is almost as silly as these leftists at Yale talking about the supposed racism of Halloween costumes.

This doesn't reveal racism just that rockabilly dominates everything and frankly these days it's as raunchy as any thing.

I haven't watched the voice and I have no intention of doing so. The wife and I used to watch dancing with the stars stopped after the year some country western DJ who could barely spell dance alone do it won because his radio show was hugely popular.

Pedophiles and racists are pretty much in the far left camp. However, they continually accuse others of what they are doing themselves. History is on my side in this debate.

Agreed. Parijita is both a beautiful 17-year-old and has a great voice. She should have gone farther. Justin or Omar should have won although the final choice for me was very difficult with Parijita there to be considered. Brandon Lape got cut too early too, and there were others.

Last year I also felt the best was eliminated and a lesser contestant won. In the future I may watch until the eliminations and then find something else to do.

For those who don’t know, like @Bullseye and @lemmiwinx , the winner is chosen by the public, or so they say.

When I see what happened with the best being eliminated, and see the people republican voters are putting in congress, I come back to the conclusion that Americans are enormously stupid. Remember: “a republic, if you can keep it.” Well nope. Too stupid to keep it.

The best should win. Winning due to race is racist. Didn’t you know?

    The viewers vote.
Given that Shelton is a Country music Icon, there's likely more country music viewers than there are pop music or other genre viewers.
So, that alone will give his team more votes.
All those viewer voters shows is more a popularity contest than a real top person win contest.

So, it appears it may be racist, but really, IMO, it's the viewer who watch tend to be more of in line with a specific genre of music.

Based on who viewers like the best. Nothing at all to do with the best voice.
