I have lived with cats and dogs all my life. They are of course different, but both are wonderful companions that we can love as much as the humans in our lives. I spotted this video, and it ignited a rage inside me that I don't think I care to describe. To those of us who care about animals, this video will be hard to watch, but it does have a happy ending. My question is whether or not this inspires rage in any of you, or is it just me?
Cruel people should be treated in the same way they mistreated their targets. This is kind of eye for an eye kind of stuff...
That’s diabolical. I wish the vet would have just taken a good set of low profile electric clippers and shaved the kitten. It would have saved the kitten a lot of pain and stress and exposure to chemicals. One more observation. The old saying “God gives you what you can handle” seems to apply to animals. Critters that are subjected to abuse like this or just bad luck more often than not are blessed with the strength, patience, and attitude to come through it with an extraordinary capacity to give and receive love.
Those madmen must have dunked the cat in a bucket of paint. They should be tarred and feathered for that.
We're that old couple down the street with all the cats. Last night we got another. Poor thing's back was cut and bleeding. It looked to me like a raccoon swiped at it. He/she is doing better and we're off to the vet tomorrow morning.
Great for that guy though I am not going to assume that the kitten was painted blue on purpose by someone just because he found it that way. The thing may have just gotten itself in paint on its own. One night my cats and dog all suddenly started going crazy all at once. It took me a couple minutes to figure it out but a feral kitten has somehow found itself in a partially filled bucket of rainwater in my back yard and couldn't get out. I couldn't hear its cries for help but a house full of female animals sure the heck knew what was up and were all trying to get out the back door to help it. Fortunately I got there in time because the poor thing just collapsed as soon as I pulled it out. I nursed it back to health and eventually found a permanent home for her. She was a sweet cat but she just wasn't comfortable with my existing collection of critters so to alleviate her anxiety, I found somewhere less nerve racking. Anyway since then I have become super vigilant about mitigating danger for small animals around my house. If a bucket is outside, it either has something over it or is upside down just for that reason. If I am painting, that brush goes into the garbage instead of being laid down, the paint stays covered and up on something if I am not painting straight out of the can. I don't place chemicals out in reach of an animal at al, etc etc.
I'm not gonna watch it. I can tell its enraging by the title and picture. I have no desire to torture myself over it any further. Its my belief that people who do this sort of thing to animals are just working their way up to doing it to people. And as people who do this sort of thing to other people sometimes do, hopefully they work their way away from it instead. But as much as stuff like this bothers me, I can't help but recall that humans do this sort of thing (maybe not this exact thing) to other humans as well. I'm more concerned with how to prevent it. There is certainly something to be said for raising awareness, but I already know this stuff happens. Show me a video on how to stop it.
The short hand version is he feeds it, tends to it, and works the paint off it in time and the kitty lives.
I mean how to stop people from torturing animals (and humans) for fun in the first place. ...tho I do cede to your previous point that this kitten could have simply befallen an accident, I think it more likely wasn't an accident, and I think we would do well to try and figure out what leads people into this sort of behavior so we can lead them away from it instead.
I don't blame you for not watching it. I watched it the one time, and I won't watch it again. For what it's worth, they rescue her and care for her and bring her back to health. I really don't know how to stop it. I almost feel like trying to "fix" someone who would do things like this is a waste of time. The only thing I can come up with off the top of my head is to lock 'em up forever, and let them serve as an example to others.
Well I won't go into how I would wanna 'fix' someone who does this sort of stuff... I'm more talking about figuring out what would lead them to do it and how to lead them away from doing it. How to fix broken people, as it were, or prevent them from being broken, before they're too broken to fix.
You aren't going to keep people from torturing animals or other people TBH. All you can do is try to be a beacon for kindness, teach your kids to be kind, and show kindness to others and hope the others pass it along. The rest is out of your control.
Not all, certainly. But I reckon its mental illness, and we all know mental illness is increasing. Stands to reason something is causing it to increase, and it stands to reason something can be done to reduce it instead. That is excellent advice tho
IMO, just as it is in any number of situations, the perpetrator (I am being nice with that title) has a lack of empathy, obviously, but quite often is because their own emotional needs were not addressed growing up. They internalize their emotions when they don't get a appropriate response from the parent figures, and act out (on animals usually) to get an emotional response from the animal. I've been told this from more than one source, several animal rescuers who have education on the subject. You can't 'fix' people like that. You can't change their exposure as a child to the adults that are raising them, if any. You can only hope their damage is minimal before they are stopped. And the laws in regards to animal abuse in this country just flat out suck.
As a kid I remember at least a couple specific instances of animal abuse, actually indiscriminate killing of small critters like lizards and snakes, by other kids. At that age you are just figuring life out, especially if you are the observer. But in both cases the animal abusers were either currently victims of parental abuse or currently witnessing parental abuse of other family members when the animal abuse occurred. In the one case I have no idea how the abuser turned out. Lost touch with the family. In the other, the kid turned out to be a well adjusted person with empathy that would never abuse an animal today.
I zapped ants with a magnifying glass as a kid, but that was as far as it went. Yes, I have stepped on a spider or two in my life. But at no time did I ever consider harming birds or critters. In general, I put harming critters in the same category as harming humans who have done nothing wrong. Especially domesticated animals who normally would trust humans and it is our responsibility to provide for them. The harm some people are capable of is disgusting.
Just my opinion, but since it looks like the eyes and nose were not paint encrusted, it was likely 'applied' rather than the cat fell into something.
Yea, i think that is likely, but i couldn't tell if the eyelids were blue, and i don't know enough about cat biology to know if there could be some other explanation about why his nose might clean up naturally more than the fur. Don't get me wrong, i love cats, but I just can't be sure that we can blame it on an evil human. But i have watched don't F with cats, so i know that people can be terrible.
