Ratifying United Nations Taxing Authority

Perhaps all of those media mouths who keep telling us this is the most important election in our lifetimes can answer my question.

There are 47 Republican senators; so why are opponents of the LOST (Law of the Sea Treaty) having trouble getting the 34 votes necessary to stop the LOST?

It seems to me that Reid should be hustling to get 67 votes needed to ratify not the other way around.

Of the 47 Republican senators how come only 27 signed the letter? Where the hell are the other 20? Notable among the missing 20 are John McCain, Lindsey Graham and Mitch McConnell. I should say 18 because Lugar and Snowe will certainly vote to ratify.

As it stands now opponents of the LOST need 7 votes to stop ratification.

Reid has a sure 53 Democrats, two independents, and two known-RINO. That means Hussein & Company need 10 more votes to ratify. The worst part is that the election in November won’t change the numbers in time.

These four Republicans are leaving:

Jon Kyl of Arizona (Signed the letter.)

Richard Lugar of Indiana

Olympia Snowe of Maine

Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas

Hutchison did not sign the letter; so where she stands on ratification is a mystery.

These Republicans are up for reelection:

Roger Wicker of Mississippi (Signed the letter.)

Dean Heller of Nevada (Signed the letter.)

Orrin Hatch of Utah (Signed the letter.)

John Barrasso of Wyoming (Signed the letter.)

Scott Brown of Massachusetts

Bob Corker of Tennessee

Brown and Corker did not sign the letter. If your Republican senator did not commit to defeating the LOST you better ask why?

The same Kabuki Dance was performed before the New START Treaty was ratified. These Republicans voted for New START:

Cochran (MS)

Collins (ME)

Isakson (GA)

Johanns (NE)

Murkowski (AK)

Snowe (ME) Leaving

Lugar (IN) Leaving

Nine of the above will also vote for or against ratifying the LOST. Americans could not stop the New START Treaty because of them. Now you know why Hussein/Reid/Kerry are pushing for the LOST before it’s too late. They have to get it ratified after the election and before January 3, 2013.

Finally, media coverage between now and the day of vote is the key. Little, or no, coverage until the vote is upon us will tell you the fix was in. Make no mistake about the importance Democrats place on the LOST. No matter what you hear in the months ahead —— ratifying the LOST is all about giving the United Nations taxing authority over the American people. They have been after that authority for decades. Everything else you hear about the LOST is smoke and mirrors.

Opposition to Law of the Sea Treaty heats up

Sen. Dean Heller (R-Nev.) on Friday became the 27th senator to sign on to a letter opposing passage of the Law of the Sea Treaty, leaving opponents just seven votes shy of the 34 votes opponents need to doom passage of the UN maritime convention.

“We are writing to let you know that we believe this Convention reflects political, economic, and ideological assumptions which are inconsistent with American values and sovereignty,” reads the letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).

U.S. accession to the 30-year-old treaty is championed by the U.S. Navy and oil and gas industries, who say it's in the United States' interest to be able to craft international maritime law. Critics say it could force the U.S. to abide by international restrictions on carbon emissions and force American companies to pay royalties to a United Nations body.

Dear Mr. Leader,

We understand that Chairman Kerry has renewed his efforts to pursue Senate ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. We are writing to let you know that we believe this Convention reflects political, economic, and ideological assumptions which are inconsistent with American values and sovereignty.

By its current terms, the Law of the Sea Convention encompasses economic and technology interests in the deep sea, redistribution of wealth from developed to undeveloped nations, freedom of navigation in the deep sea and exclusive economic zones which may impact maritime security, and environmental regulation over virtually all sources of pollution.

To effect the treaty’s broad regime of governance, we are particularly concerned that United States sovereignty could be subjugated in many areas to a supranational government that is chartered by the United Nations under the 1982 Convention. Further, we are troubled that compulsory dispute resolution could pertain to public and private activities including law enforcement, maritime security, business operations, and nonmilitary activities performed aboard military vessels.

If this treaty comes to the floor, we will oppose its ratification.
