I have already shown why yesterday and early this morning. Only those Democrats that hate him so much because he is a popular Republican, think he is the worst, or one of the worst. They can't have a great Republican President. It eats them alive.

It seems like I have been gone from these boards to long. I didn't mean to start another thread on Reagan. I was answering to the one who put one up asking if Reagan was one of the worst. Which he sure wasn't and my reasons why was put up yesterday and early this morning on it.

Despite the fact that he sold arms to terrorists and implemented the failed policy of trickle down economics.

Also, the CIA's involvement in cocaine trafficking during his administration is largely responsible for the crack epidemic and associated rise in crime that set the black community back for decades.

Also, he's responsible for the war on drugs (that was hypocritical given the above information) that lead to black people being disproportionately incarcerated and used for free labour in for-profit prisons.

Also, he actively prevented the surgeon general from releasing information on HIV/AIDS, so the blood of an entire generation of gay men is on his hands.

    I'm glad Reagan's dead.

Do you know when Reagan came down with Alzheimers? My Sister's husband died of it and he only lived about a year and a half. Or is it you just want to trash Reagan?

The war on drugs has been going on ever sense the Vietnam war. I'm sure the little drugs they brought in to help get money for the Contras was a drop in the bucket to what was being brought in. Go back on the other thread of Who thinks Reagan was the worst President and read the posts I put up last night and early this morning and you'll get much of your answers.

No is a popular President. Just because he's dead doesn't mean is isn't popular anymore.

Cold War ended under his watch so that's something but I think Clinton was much better though.

I am a Californian who witnessed Reagan ending the hope of
    tuition free higher education.
I am a Californian who witnessed Reagan closing mental hospitals
creating transient costs to locals and towns.
    And
I am a Californian who believes these policies were excessive when adjustments to
"State Income Tax" as Jerry Brown accomplished ( The Arnold didn't )
would have maintained the concept, & , hope of a "Progressive State of California".

    Before MediCaid 1964
    Before ObamaCare
The Greatest State or California offered better medical care to the indigent than the
Middle Class experienced. California County Hospitals were not "death houses".
They were linked to one of several quality medical schools. UCLA, UCSF, Loma Linda, USC, Stanford, etc.

On Reagan's positive side as President
He Broadcasted, "Americanism" as no President has for decades!

And I see Trump doing the same, except
Trump being harder on Wall St. & Bankers

Not true! There are some Democrats who will acknowledge great Republican Presidents. For example, I think Teddy Roosevelt was a great Republican President.

    Wrong.

MOSCOW — He stunned the Soviet Union with his tough rhetoric, calling it an “evil empire” whose leaders gave themselves the “right to commit any crime.”

His famed “Star Wars” program drew the Soviets into a costly arms race it couldn’t afford. His 1987 declaration to Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev at the Berlin Wall — “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall” — was the ultimate challenge of the Cold War.

Ronald Reagan’s determination to destroy communism and the Soviet Union was a hallmark of his eight-year presidency, carried out through a harsh nuclear policy toward Moscow that softened only slightly when Gorbachev came to office.

He is vividly remembered in Russia today as the force that precipitated the Soviet collapse.

“Reagan bolstered the U.S. military might to ruin the Soviet economy, and he achieved his goal,” said Gennady Gerasimov, who served as top spokesman for the Soviet Foreign Ministry during the 1980s.

Reagan’s agenda toward Moscow started shortly after the start of his first term — and marked a major departure from the mild detente of the Jimmy Carter administration.

In 1981, Reagan backed his rhetoric with a trillion dollar defense buildup. U.S.-Soviet arms control talks collapsed, and the two nations targeted intermediate-range nuclear missiles at each other across the Iron Curtain in Europe.
    .
The deployment of the U.S. missiles in Europe rattled the Kremlin’s nerves, because of the shorter time they needed to reach targets in the Soviet Union compared to intercontinental missiles deployed in the United States.

In an even bigger shock to the Kremlin, Reagan in 1983 launched an effort to build a shield against intercontinental ballistic missiles involving space-based weapons.

The Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), dubbed “Star Wars,” dumped the previous doctrine of Mutual Assured Destruction that assumed that neither side would start a nuclear war because it would not be able to avoid imminent destruction.

Even though Reagan’s “Star Wars” never led to the deployment of an actual missile shield, it drew the Soviets into a costly effort to mount a response. Many analysts agree that the race drained Soviet coffers and triggered the economic difficulties that sped up the Soviet collapse in 1991.

“Reagan’s SDI was a very successful blackmail,” Gerasimov told The Associated Press. “The Soviet Union tried to keep up pace with the U.S. military buildup, but the Soviet economy couldn’t endure such competition.”

Yelena Bonner, the widow of Soviet dissident Nobel Prize winner Andrei Sakharov, praised Reagan for his tough course toward the Soviet Union.

“I consider Ronald Reagan one of the greatest U.S. presidents since the World War II because of his staunch resistance to Communism and his efforts to defend human rights,” Bonner said in a telephone interview from her home in Boston. “Reagan’s policy was consistent and precise, and he had a great talent of choosing the right people for his administration.”

Former Soviet dissident Vladimir Bukovsky, 61, remembered Reagan fondly for his humor and his toughness.

“His phrase, ’evil empire,’ became a household word in Russia,” said Bukovsky, who now lives in Cambridge, England. “Russians like a staightforward person, be he enemy or friend. They despise a wishy-washy person.”

Reagan also sold AWAC airplanes to Saudi Arabia in a deal that cut oil prices to $15.00 a barrel. Reagan knowing that oil was the Soviets biggest source of income and the price drop would deprive them of billions of needed dollars.

How has trickle down economics failed? Last time I checked the US is a capitalist nation and until Obama came along we had jobs lots of them that is what trickle down economics is all about. You agree to work for me and increase my profits I'll pay you commensurately. You commies all think that money magically just appears. Economics is about quid pro quo you work you eat it's really that simple. Your fantasy about the government controlling the means of production is just that a half baked wet dream. If you believe in it so much why not devote your collective self to some real communist success story like say Cuba.Would young men of color's lot have been any better if some one hadn't at least tried to stop the flow of poison into their veins. There are more blacks in prison because they commit more crimes this also is just that simple.Blacks have been given ample time and opportunity to pull themselves up and some have but many haven't because of enablers such as yourself. Lastly were you there when Reagan allegedly prevented this info on HIV/AIDS or is this an urban legend in your community? Oh and I'll bet given the crap show Obama has been I'll bet Reagan's also glad he's dead.
