Yea, I wish republicans would learn this.

Dems never apologize for the things they say or do.

It only validates the notion you are in the wrong.

    NEVER apologize to dems.

She apologised to the Muslim community, I understand, not necessarily to “Dems”…

And she was wrong to say what she did about her fellow congressman…

I am constantly amazed that the USA is not now and hasn't been ever the main nation as a victim of terrorism ALL you have to do to be seen as a completely safe individual is not to DRESS like Osama bin Laden at an Islam Fashion show and NO American RW guard of any type will ever even suspect you of anything.

Keep in mind that Al Franken was once threatened with formal censure and actual legal action by Mitch McConnell for rolling his eyes while another Congressman spoke

I don't get the impression that most Americans even understand that many people in other countries hate us, our educational system is surpassed by many developed countries and our worst enemy is us.

Lately, I've been burnt out on the constant bickering. It's beyond stupid, draining and counterproductive. I am extremely heartbroken this is what we've become. It's the first time in my lifetime that I've felt ashamed of my fellow Americans.

What part of what she said do you think is wrong? And, how did her apology help (to whomever it was directed)?

Other than the part wherein she compared Omar to a terrorist…?

I don't recall that. The article I read indicated that she told some of her supporters that a security officer tried to stop the elevator door from closing and she looked over and saw Omar and assumed the officer thought Omar was a terrorist.

    1. Unless she's claiming to be a mind reader, she doesn't know why the security officer did that (or, if he told her that, that information is not in the article).

    2. One of the reasons our society is so dysfunctional is this. Murderers, rapists, pedophiles, thieves, other unsavory people are hurting others in countless ways every single day and it's because we are conditioned to place these people with a "specific" cue and that's completely asinine.

I also asked you how an apology from what's-her-name is helpful? What is the benefit in that for anybody in the equation?

I didn’t suggest that it was helpful? I merely corrected the person as to whom it was directed…

I feel the apology sets the tone of civility in Congress where it has been at best sub par the past few years.

I mock priests for diddling little kids, not for the faith. Should active pedophiles who are shielded by the bureaucracy of their church not be mocked and publicly scorned? 1584414801.3623-smiley.gif

No. It doesn't do that. It just forces the one forced to apologize to come up with stealth ways of expressing his/her <whatever>.

Holding a person responsible for what they say on the US Congressional floor, is hardly stealth. As for the wordsmithery, that has been going in every govt discussion since Hammurabi and past.

It isn't an specific organization, as far as I can tell. It's a "movement." If I'm going to call Omar anti-Semitic for supporting boycotts on Israel (something I don't support myself, btw), then I have to call every right winger who has complained about economic globalism, George Soros, or "cultural Marxism" anti-Semitic as well. All of those have roots in anti-Semitic tropes, as I'm relatively certain the ADL has also pointed out. Does that make everyone who makes such arguments anti-Semitic? Well, they are just as guilty as Omar is, so you make up your mind and let me know what conclusion you reach.
