Republican Hypocrisy on display

In a race for the Virginia House of Delegates (Virginia is the state I live in) the Republicans have mailed out advertisement trying to shame Democrat candidate Susanna Gibson.

Prior to running for the office Gibson and her husband posted a video to an adult website of them having sex and now the Republicans are trying to use this to paint Gibson as unsuited for the House of Delegates.

The flyers, which warned on the envelope that "explicit material" was enclosed, included alleged screenshots and quotes from Gibson about sex as well as excerpted text from news stories on the scandal, according to the local affiliate.

So the party that wants to ban "drag queen story hours" (and drag shows in general), that continues to support a man that had an affair with a porn star and wants to ban books that even mention same sex couples is now mailing flyers with screen shots from an adult website to the homes of thousands of voters.

1. What Gibson and her husband did was consensual, unlike the encounter between E. Jean Carroll and their man Trump.
2. They are so afraid of "explicit material" getting in the hands of kids they want to ban books from school libraries but are more than willing to mail "explicit material" to people who may not want it in their homes where their children might see it.
3. This is the issue that they want to debate? Not, abortion rights or gun control?

 

It's fair game. It's scandalous enough to be influential, though most likely people are still going to vote along the same party lines they generally would have. It'll serve most as an attention grabber.

I agree that there is nothing legally or morally wrong with what her and her husband did. They are consenting adults. But they put it on the internet. Once you put it on the internet, it's out of your control no matter how much you may believe or have been assured otherwise. If the videos had been stolen from their home, that would make it different. Her opponents would still try to use it but in that instance she would actually be a victim. At least more of a victim than she is now.

The moral of the story and of a depressing number of stories before it is; Don't put anything on the internet you wouldn't want others to see or use.

 

It might motivate young people to come out and vote for her.

 

Kudos to her for her unique funding of her campaign.

Shame on her for her hypocrisy.

 

Her constituents have every right to know that she is a sex worker. Do you have a problem with sex workers? She wasn't working in secret.

The Republican hypocrisy comes when you want to use her status as a sex worker against her but completely ignore Donnie's well documented history of sexual assault.

 

It's the same as the GOP complaining endlessly about the influx of immigrants, while at the same time screaming from the rooftops that the border is wide open, so everyone can come in. Isn't that advertising to immigrants that they should come, only so that the GOP can make political hay out of it?

In any case, back to the topic, I am a liberal, but I don't think this lady should run for public office. We can do better than electing people who make such poor choices in their personal life.

I think it’s pretty tacky but does anyone think the Democrats wouldn’t have done the same thing if it were the other way around?

 

Why is it a poor choice? Let's say she was your daughter, would you praise her for what she posted online for everyone to see? I don't know if she has children or ever will, but if she did, how would THEY react to their mom doing the deed publically broadasted on social media?

I always tell my children (and students) when it comes to social media: If you wouldn't want your mother to see it or read it, then don't post it. Now, if teenagers get carried away, that's one thing, but adults? That's seriously bad judgement.

If this is the best example of Republican hypocrisy that you have, I'd say the Republicans are doing ok on that front.

 

Any evidence of that? No.

Trump was found liable by a unanimous jury

 

Would I praise her? No, because she didn't do anything extraordinary. Would I shame her? No, because she didn't do anything worthy of shame.
