?

Which of the following would you support Harris doing in 2024?

  1. Counting "alternate electors" and ignoring the electors actually sent by the states

    0 vote(s)
    0.0%
  2. Declaring swing state EC votes invalid and giving the Dem candidate the win

    0 vote(s)
    0.0%
  3. Both of these options are horrible, which is also why I have rejected Trump

    0 vote(s)
    0.0%
  4. It's only okay when we do it

    0 vote(s)
    0.0%

After the 2024 election, VP Harris will preside over Congress as they open and count the EC votes. Those of us who stayed awake in our junior high social studies classes, or have read the Constitution at some point at all, know that this is a purely ceremonial process. The Constitution says that she is to open the votes sent by the states and that Congress is to count all of them.

However, the GOP now says this isn't the case. According to the GOP, Harris has additional, extra-Constitutional powers. So, I'd like to ask the GOP if they'd actually support Harris exercising these powers in a situation in which the GOP candidate has the majority of the EC votes.

Now, as far as the law/Constitution is concerned, states determine how to allocate their EC votes. But, according to Trump and his supporters, this isn't strictly the case. According to them, ANY state legislator can just declare themselves (or anyone else they choose) an "alternate elector," despite the laws of their state governing EC selection. After that, according to Trump supporters, the VP can pick and choose which electors to count. Harris could just declare that she isn't going to count the ACTUAL EC votes of swing states and count "alternate" electors instead

Do you support that? I sure as **** don't.

But there's another option. Maybe Harris, like Pence, would choose to actually just to keep obeying the Constitution in this case. According to Trump supporters, there's another option here. Harris could simply declare that, while she won't pick and choose which EC votes to pick, she could just refuse to count the votes of a few swing states, invalidating them completely, and declare the Dem candidate the winner if they have the majority of the remaining EC votes.

Do you support that? I sure as **** don't.

But if you continue defending and supporting Trump, that is exactly what you are supporting. Heaven forbid Harris tries to exercise the unconstitutional powers you guys have argued that Trump is entitled to.
