So you prefer rogue states to be more nationalistic than regular law abiding ones?

OK weird choice but the ways of foreigners are often inscrutable.

A bone fide medical certificate - you know one that was not written by the candidate themselves might be a good thing

    I don't prefer them.
I see rogue states exuding toxic nationalism while rule-of-law states live up to their responsibilities to the whole world.

Well that rules Trump out for a start

Just because some blowhard tells you he loves America and hugs a flag it does NOT mean he actually has America’s best interest at heart

Trump had a great education. He graduated from a top ranked college. What do you mean he is not educated

Donald loves to brag about his Wharton education but the fact is, with only a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from the University Of Pennsylvania and no advanced degree, Trump is less educated than the last three presidents who preceded him. In fact, you would have to go all the way back to Harry Truman to find a president who has less education than Trump. :D

So why does that make him not worthy of the presidency?

Well, history has shown that DJT is no good for President. He was a one-termer, he failed miserably on the Corona crisis and other things. He only became president because Americans didn't want the unsympathetic Hillary.

I was going to tell you that our last president did get a B.S. degree in Economics, from the University of Pennsylvania's prestigious Wharton school of business, but then I saw that you'd had the initiative to check this, for yourself (kudos!). I would like to use the oppty., nonetheless, to reiterate part of my & others' arguments, from earlier, that you may have not seen.

After the example of Donny T., I'll also point out that the team that brought us our ill-conceived, falsely-predicated, and hugely-draining (in everything from soldiers' lives, to funds, to our national credibility) War in Iraq-- Dick Cheney & G.W. Bush-- were also, "college men." I'll proceed, through quoted arguments:

That quote alludes to my prior detailing of the other half of the equation, that is, those figures of remarkable achievement, who did not require a degree. It is put succinctly, here, by OldManOn Fire:
Without realizing, at the time, that I was doing so, I used half of OldMan's names, in my own post:

I can agree with that. But he’s still educated.

This is my first reading or hearing about this letter. Did this actually fool anybody? That's not how doctors write letters. For one, it's unethical for him to speak on issue other than his personal observations, test results and summaries. A gastroenterologist (GI - mouth, esophagus, stomach, colons, etc.) has nothing to do with any kind of orthopedic treatments or surgeries.

Beyond that, the wording sounds exactly the way Trump speaks about himself. Nobody bought this letter. I don't. I can't believe that. No, yes, I absolutely believe that Trump concocted this but I don't believe a real doctor wrote it or anybody older than 15 thought it was authentic.

Reminds me of this...but I think this is cute (I do NOT think Orange Jesus is adorable (in case there was any kind of doubt ;-)).

    "Toxic Nationalism?"

OK that sounds...absurd. Clearly you're not a serious person.

I'm an Internationalist, but not a Communist. This is something that overwhelms the minds of right- and left-wing extremists. :(

It's not overwhelming at all. It's a childish mood, not a serious thought out position.

In a political context, your own position counts. Not that of any party. I e.g. sympathize with Republicans who oppose Donald Trump. :)

Presidents should have to liquidate all of their possessions and put the money in government bonds until they are out of office.

Sounds reasonable because a good president should always be the first servant of the people and nation.

Most people vote primarily on name recognition, so a good advertising campaign needs a lot of adverts and is going to cost a lot of money.

It is therefore the first duty of any politician including a President to direct money to those who supported him.

That means weapons makers by increasing the military budget, and health insurance companies by keeping the healthcare system running as a syndicate.

A good bit of our Constitution was in response to something going on in the world at the time it was written. Don't underestimate what impact the movement to put America under Prussian protection (and control) after the revolution had on the thing when it was written.

Anyway, I would do away with the residency for 14 years thing, but other than that, the rest is fine with me.

The basic legal requirements are: Article II of the U.S. Constitution, the president, must be a natural-born citizen of the United States, be at least 35 years old, and have been a resident of the United States for 14 years.

In practice, the other requirement is enough financial backing:

Most people vote primarily on name recognition, so a good advertising campaign needs a lot of adverts and will cost a lot of money.

It is, therefore, a practical requirement that any politician, not self-funded or group funded, including a President, direct money to those who supported him, with a history as a Senator, for example, of having done so.

That means weapons makers by increasing the military budget, health insurance companies by keeping the healthcare system running as a syndicate, and other significant beneficiaries of government funding.
