I cannot think of a better warning about the unregulated state of the internet than this. We are seeing a resurgence of diseases like Whooping cough and we are getting deaths from Measles - again. Personally I hope that some poor parent who has lost a child sues the !#@!#@ off of some of the "disinformation" websites that are promoting this rubbish Sadly it will take some poor child either dying or developing lifelong disabilities from something like post measles encephalitis for that to happen
Believe - just as there is a resurgence of "measles parties" - a disease that can cause sclerosing pan encephalitis and they want to deliberately infect their children and when challenged they will tell you that "the vaccination causes encephalitis too" and it does but in the order of around 1,000,000 times less frequently
It doesn't just happen due to misinformation on the internet, although it doesn't help. Before cyberia was word of mouth. Mothers grouped their kids together just so they would be exposed to childhood illnesses, and "get it over with". You can't regulate stupidity, although its tempting.
Whispers to PKW - here it almost is - you refuse vaccination and you better be prepared to talk to DOCS
Granny says, "Momma's to be - lissen up so's yer babies don't get the whoopin' cough... Panel: Pregnant women, get whooping cough shot 24 Oct.`12 An expert panel is urging every expecting mother to get a shot preventing whooping cough, preferably in the last three months of her pregnancy to help protect her baby.
statistically, babies are more likely to catch whooping cough from their mothers, so its good advice. when my daughter was pregnant, both grandmas also had shots. All adults likely to be in touch with babies should be immunised. FWIW, new studies have also shown obese adults are also more likely to contract whooping cough: http://vitals.nbcnews.com/_news/201...e-adults-whooping-cough-risk-study-finds?lite so thats another reason to maintain a healthy weight ....
Many parts of world are affected from the problem of typhoid and diarrhea. On the other hand chicken pox and measles has become a seasonal disease which is not even imparted importance by the family of affected person. They are putting life of their dear one oin danger due to their carelessness.
Not getting children vaccinated for chicken pox and measles as soon as they can endangers infants who cannot be immunized. This is what gets me- every unimmunized child puts every baby at risk- not just their own baby but any baby that child possibly could come in contact with.
As far as I can find, before the chickenpox vaccine about 100 people died each year from chickenpox or its complications. The severe side effects of the vaccine (anaphalaxis, pneumonia) hit 1 in 100,000 vaccinations. Both are low numbers. Sounds like getting chickenpox or a chickenpox vaccination is a nonissue. Either way you get immunized. The real risk is becoming an adult and getting chickenpox. Either get the vaccine as a child, or get chickenpox as a child. Some vaccinations are critical such as tetanus, pertussis, polio, measels. Others I don't worry about such as chickenpox and flu. You dont have to take a vaccine just because it exists. The H1N1 vaccine turned out to be a mistake for a lot of people. The annual flu vaccine may or may not work depending if they guessed correctly, and I dont trust the system well enough to just get anything injected into my or my kids body.
So where did you get this information??? Don't tell me - let me guess - some blog right?? Did they even know enough to tell the difference between Herpes Simplex (Cold Sores) and Herpes Zoster (Chickenpox/shingles)??? I bet not. Are you even aware that Chickenpox and Shingles are caused by THE SAME VIRUS?? Varicella Zoster Virus You DON'T get immune from catching Chickenpox - what you get is a lifelong sentence to enjoy a flare up of Shingles at any time. For anyone who has had it - real fun stuff http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varicella_zoster_virus (((((((((((((((((((sigh)))))))))))))))))))))) Wiki - not perfect but does stop one putting one's foot in it It is fine to make such decisions but please - see a health professional first or simply google up GOOD sites such as the CDC, the Australian health sites such as the Victorian one http://www.health.vic.gov.au/immunisation/factsheets/chickenpox-vaccination.htm or the Australian immunisation Handbook http://www.immunise.health.gov.au/internet/immunise/publishing.nsf/Content/Handbook-varicella Whatever you do - do NOT trust "what sum blogger told me"
